Saves Cavs $13M in luxury taxes and they had to cut roster size down...not a fan of sending the 2 2nd round draft picks though.

 

Makes no sense to keep Calderon over Jefferson

 

Why? Calderon is insurance for IT, Rose, both injury plagued point guards. Jefferson had no shot of cracking rotation, even if injuries occurred.

 

Also, RJ a bigger tax hit than Calderon, I believe.

 

IMO Jeff is a better player at this point than Jose, he gave them a lot of good run last year. Yeah IT will be out for a while but they still have a really talented guard rotation in Rose, JR, Wade, and Korver, not to mention the fact that Bron handles the ball for them most of the time anyway.
Just makes more sense to me to keep some depth at the forward with Love starting at the 5.
Jae is gonna be nice but you're not getting anything good from Jeff Green or Osman. Who knows what Zizic will be.

Sadly I think every time he falls everyone will collectively wince and immediately mentally scream "oh no!"

 

Well, the truth of the matter is, neither one of them is that good at this point of their careers, however Calderon plays the more important position and is already on a cheaper contract than RJ. If the team were planning on depending on either one of these guys to help this year, than the Cavs are in trouble. I don't really agree with the 'RJ gave the Cavs a good run" sentiment. As someone who watched every dribble of the Cavs, I was never high on RJ. I'm also not high on Calderon either, but again, neither one of these guys were expected to contribute much. Jose is more of an emergency plan.

Cavs have plenty of depth at the 2/3/4 positions between LeBron, Jae, Green, Korver, JR, Shump, Wade & even Frye...There was no way RJ was going to play in front of any of those guys.

It would be very Clippers/Doc Rivers for Richard Jefferson to end up there (I read Hawks are buying him out).

 

I love how Embiid can pretty much say whatever he wants to on Twitter. Feel like if someone tried that from the NFL there would be so much obnoxious stink about it.
