RIP Gordie.

Gordie played a pick up game with my dad's local team in the late eighties. He'll never forget that.

 

I didn't get to talk about this last night due to all the Martin Jones hype but Dillon played 10 minutes and Polak played 13. I want to say that's good on Deboer but he saddles them in the offensive zone with the Thornton line. It's an awful idea because they can't help the Thornton line score at all compared to like Burns/Martin.

I really hope the Sharks just play Vlasic/Burns 30 minutes and Braun/Martin 25 minutes these last two games because they can't afford any mistakes in these last two games.

There better me a moment of silence for him on Sunday. And I fully expect our fans to be completely respectful. None of that chanting Pens suck type garbage before during or after it. I've seen other teams fans do it and that is just horrible.

 

I think PDB will limit their minutes. He has been shortening the bench lately. If he doesnt limit them as a pair, I at least hope he starts sending them out with a double shifted parter, Vlasic or Braun maybe, to help shelter them.

 

I don't think they can get any shorter unless he basically wants to play them under 10 which I'd imagine Deboer isn't a fan of. I really don't want them to play with any of the main 4 because those combos weren't working at all in game 4.

Another thing that bugged me was how many times the sharks just tried to throw it around the wall and what do you know? Penguins player was there to stop it and keep possession. They are going to need rn start carrying it out even more of their own zone instead of just the dump out and change idea.

 

I think Polak looked ok when carrying out instead of stretch passing last night. However he needs to dump at the blue line and get back in position. He kept carrying it deep.

As far as the dump and chase goes, we need speedier puck retrievers on the 1st. Nieto actually might work with the joes if he can get in quick and move away from the corners before getting pinned.

It's tough. Murray is killing it right now, but will he continue to dominate? Fleury was great this season before he got hurt. I know it's easy to shit on him, but I still find it hard to blame him. While it's gona be awesome to see new teams in the NHL, this draft is a bummer.

 

Panthers just dealt Marc Savard+2nd round pick to NJ for a couple nobodies.
