Well I'm pretty sure we've witnessed the end of fleury's career in pittsburgh. It's a shame. I really liked the guy.

Very disappointed with last night. Tampa in the finals guarantees my wife's entry wins our playoff pool. I really thought they were gonna win it after the Drouin disallowed goal. That completely changed the game.

Still hate that challenge rule so much. That play there is not what the rule was put into place to avoid, if the linesman misses it when its that close, so what? The outrage was over players who were very clearly a full stride or more offside and the linesman missing those calls. Yuck.

That rule has to be changed or limited to just goaltender interference. If they were offsides by just a hair, it makes no difference; it's just nitpicking.

It's like arguing balls and strikes. Do you really want a robotic umpire in baseball that never misses a call? I think human error is important in not only playing the game but also officiating the game

But then where is the line drawn? If 1 hair is Ok, is 2 hairs Ok? Then if you set a precedent that"barely offside" is ok, is there any slack given when going just a hair over that line? The blue line exists, and offside is offside regardless of whether or not it had anything affect the play. Same goes for a goal. If the puck is only a hair away from going in, should it count?

Seems silly, but rules are rules and everyone has to play within them.

I watched hockey for 15 years and never was outraged by a goal where a guy was barely offside like last night because its not even noticeable at game speed. The challenge is an abomination and kills the flow of the game.

I think if they give the refs better tech to review it'll go faster. Growing pains but getting the call right is pretty important, and like I said it's either offside or not, a goal or no goal. Hockey is a game of inches. I know if it were my team facing elimination, I would want it called properly too, and if the call was going against my team, like tampa, well rules are rules. When you leave too much to interpretation, you get a whole other mess like what the league is going through with goalie interference right now.

My team got jobbed out of a cup (or at least a game 7) in 1999 due to a rule that was ambiguous. I refuse to ever see the NHL as a league that will say "Rules are rules" or "We need to get the call right."

let's just get ready of offsides all together and everyone will be disappointed.

    agree completely.
When a sabres fan is telling you to chill out with video review, you know the rule is bad.

I think when you have to split hairs, the rule should go. That's part of why they got rid of the skate in the crease rule. There were so many questions regarding "how much skate" needs to be in the crease and they were splitting hairs over it. Garbage rules belong in the garbage.

Also, this offsides rule hurts bringing new fans into the game. No major America sport has offsides so you have to explain that first. Then you throw in this rule. And then you factor in how the whole process slows the sport down and we're judging from the worst angle whether or not a foot was on the ice when the entire puck crossed. Horrible.

Did they get rid of offside in Football, literally the biggest sport in North America? News to me! I realize its not the same exact rule as in football, but it is the same idea. It is different than offside in soccer, but again the same idea.

You are arguing that offside should be removed completely, and that is the first time I have heard that argument. Most just want to leave it up to the linesman. As far as the Buffalo goal goes, skate in the crease was just a dumb rule to begin with. It was meant to prevent goalie interference.

You cant avoid rules where splitting hairs is gonna happen, again, if a puck is a hair away from going in should it count? If it went in by a hair but the refs called no goal, should that stand without review?

I'm not quite sure on why you have that stance. The league screwed your team by not getting it right, then they implement a challenge to avoid that type of thing in the future, and you don't want that either?

The rule is that a player cannot be in the attacking zone before the puck. Last night, the puck was not in the zone, Drouin was, it was offside. It isn't ambiguous, it black and white, offside and not onside. It isn't even splitting hairs, the second his skate was off the ice, he was offside. Period.

  25. The difference with soccer and football is that you can't challenge those plays though.
