That trade makes a bit more sense with the tweets that followed as context:

- Sean Rodriguez is out 3-5 months after that car accident earlier in the year.

- Cincinnatti is allegedly covering a good bit of the contract as well as getting a "minimal" return.

I was hoping to see a good bit of Albies this year, but I'll take one year of the Brandon Phillips Experience.

 

Also sounds like he had to cave a bit on his demands as well.

 

Also he's another name to put buts in the seats so the Braves can justify to the tax payers of Georgia way they spent all their money.

 

Would you rather the owner just pocket it all?

 

I'm really happy Utley is back which is crazy because I hated him the first season he was with us. I just grew to love him.

also Dodgers roster right now could literally be two teams.

 

That was more of a slam on how the government shouldn't fund this stuff and the owner is pocketing all the money

 

I feel bad for Rodriguez, he had that breakout year last season and the Braves were going to give him playing time every day at 2B/3B. He finally gets a chance after having a big year and it gets derailed by some asshole who stole a cop car and crashed into the vehicle of a completely innocent family.

 

How washed up is Phillips at this point in his career? Glancing at his numbers from last season, it didn't look bad. But holy shit, the guy is 35 and I feel like players fall off a cliff at this age.

 

They give up nothing to get him.

 

The Braves will, at the very least, be a fun team to watch and root for. A lot of really likable guys on the roster.

 

Reds just really wanted to tank and get his contract off the books I guess, desperately. I wonder if they'd ever move votto.

 

Definitely much improved and interesting mix of young talent and veteran guys.

So the Braves are giving up two 27+ year old minor league pitchers AND the Reds are paying $13 million of BP's salary? Nice.

 

It's kind of a steal. Not quite stealing Dansby from the D-Backs level, but still good.

 

If Philips wasn't productive, it would make sense. The problem is he still has a good skill set, so it just seems dumb that the Reds would pay all of that salary only to dump him for basically no return. I get that they're going nowhere anyway, but it just seems like a bad trade on their end.

 

Maybe Phillips would only go to atl? Lol

He passed up a championship contending team trade last year to be on a bottom 5 team, nice

 

so happy ST starts next week

should be a fun as hell Astros season
