I mean, thats a heinous contract but to get what they did for him in the trade and then get him back like 12 weeks later isnt a bad thing

So not 100+? I mean that's not that terrible compared to what we all thought he would get I guess. Cashman really loves him.

I agree on the first point the past few years they were like 1-2 great players away from winning it all and I feel bad that their owner doesn't help them out.

Really it was more just me throwing a crazy scenario out there and HOPING that maybe it comes true. I really like Cutch and my Dad thinks it's funny to say he's our kin because my grandmother's maiden name is McCutchen
Wow, I'm surprised it's not more honestly. Jansen may match him now

It may happen, it really like depends what the offers are like but I cant imagine after being offered a big package from the nats they go lesser.

I really like how the indians or the jays match up with them or even the dodgers. I think the dodgers are the only one who inquired though.

Tbh I hope they're forced to keep him and he has a great season so they can't trade him lol

Stoked Betances can go back to setup. If it's true there was a 92 mil offer out there, looks like he really did like NY. Clippard was nice when he came over so that's a great trio again at the end.

Really curious to hear people's opinion on this as it's a thought I've had recently. People always complain that an owner is rich but won't spend money on the team. Are you upset they won't spend their personal wealth to improve the team or that they are not willing to spend all of the profits on an increased payroll even if that's not how you'd generally run a business?

I'd prefer a team to be run within it's means as much as possible, so a rich owner not splashing out just because they can afford it doesn't bother me.

If your team is close to competing and has a relatively cheap payroll compared to most there is no excuse not to go for it. None.
There's a difference between fiscally conservative and literally refusing to spend so trading good players away for prospects when youre a playoff team. Idk

I wouldn't say hosed but I do think they gave up a lot for him.

I knew they would circle back to Robertson, I'm still surprised they didn't try for him to begin with in that deal.

Rich Hahn and Ken Williams, aka Darth Vader and Emperor Palpatine are basically using the choke force on the Nats at this point.

This is sort of a loaded question and topic. From a purely base level, I believe sports ownership is different than running, say manufacturing company ABC making widgets. I think sports owners as much as possible should lean towards being competitive than purely being the most profitable team. Fans and cities as a whole don't care if you are profitable if the product sucks. This is not just business, but also entertainment. Fiscal prudence makes more sense as a strategy to me in other industries. In sports, you are dealing with tons of entertainment money and super inflated assets. There is more credence to the adage that you have to spend money to make money. Therefore, owners that are willing to "nut up" so to speak have my respect. I like Cuban and Gilbert a lot. Steve Balmer should be good as well. My general feelings are if you are going to be a budget owner, you probably either should be buying a franchise in a different league beyond the big ones, or you inherited a team and don't really want it beyond the income for your own family. Neither of which is good for the franchise in question.

ESPN article says Eaton's WAR was better than Corey Seager's, Anthony Rizzo's and Carlos Correa's. I think the WAR stat just became dead to me.

Its really strange, I like analytics but sometimes they overstep what our eyes tell us. That being said if they play him where they plan to his war is supposedly going to go down to 3-4 so... Lol
