So the nats got Adam Eaton instead of mccutchen? Classic nats move.

 

So I guess it'a time for everybody in the Washington organization to go into panic mode, eh?

 

I was on the grounds crew for a Yankees minor league team once for four years. It was simultaneously the best and worst experience of my life.

 

They traded giolito, Reynaldo Lopez and their 1st rounder from this past draft for Adam eaton. I'm pretty shocked. Cws robbed them.

i mean eaton is technically probably better at this point with a far better contract
still though, what a haul. i'm probably undervaluing eaton a bit because he is a 5 WAR player with a super affordable contract over 5 years but it's so hard to trust defense first guys

 

I'll take cutch over him any day, don't care about one down year.

It's weird saying Chicago get such a good deal. Makes me wonder what they'll get for Quintana now to complete going into rebuild mode.

 

cutch is older, has three fewer years of control, and costs more, and potentially at this point isn't as good.

 

CWS are doing some good work as much as it pains me to say.

 

I feel like Robertson should've been included in that Nats trade for maybe another piece. As it is, that's a lot to give up.

 

What if the Yankees strike out on chapman and Jansen and get him back though? I feel like that's possible.

 

Only thing I care about losing is Lopez, soured on Giolito just like the org did.

 

I feel like he will still be good down the line but when you're winning now it makes more sense to trade him.

 

Could happen. I still think they'll get Chapman. I'm just shocked the Nationals didn't try and get Robertson too given their need at closer.

 

Probably wanted to wait till there are no other options left. I'm still not sure OF was such a need that they gave up that package for Eaton, like losing two of your top 5 is gonna limit potential trades for a reliever or someone else when you're competing in mid season.

 

That deal is the argument against WAR lol. He only had 14 steals with his speed? Or am I dumb and he's not as fast as I'm remembering

It's the compensation for extending a qualifying offer to certain free agents. Many think that is part of the reason some of the other big names didn't move sooner. This type of compensation for top tier free agents will be softened in the new CBA.

 

I know the rules, I just didn't realize they had such a high pick and Desmond required that. That's what was surprising.

 

Yeah, literally the lowest pick a team can surrender. I'm sure some really good players have been taken 11th overall in the last few years.
