Otani is amazing.

 

I wish he came to the majors as both a pitcher and a hitter.

 

I feel like it would be such a waste to not have him DH for 3 days a week, an off day to rest up, then pitch on the fifth day.

 

I want to see him hit against MLB pitching in a non-dome stadium. Just all kinds of dingers.

 

Fulmer wins AL ROY, Seager wins NL ROY.

 

Kind of a weak rookie field in the AL.

I'm trying to figure out what the Giants will do. Traditionally, they never sign a premier power hitter. All they really need is a closer and a big bat left fielder. Cespedes and Chapman will be too expensive. I'm hoping for Melancon at least.

Fulmer was in the running for an ERA title, and Sanchez had an all time historic start. Naquin and Mazara both had pretty good rookie seasons. Yeah, nobody that could legit be an MVP like Seager, but strongly disagree.

totally. If anything, Seager in the NL is the one that sticks out like a sore thumb in terms of uniqueness. Fulmer/sanchez are super solid ROY candidates, while Seager was almost a MVP! that's crazy

 

I think Fulmer and Sanchez both had terrific numbers. Neither played a full MLB season, but both were all-star level talents when they did play. Stretch both out for a full season and you no longer think it's a weak year, IMO. This type of thing happens often- at least it isn't like a reliever or a pro from another league coming over and winning the award. I think both had really phenomenal years.

 

You do realize the award is named after its first recipient who did just that.

 

Haha. I hate it. I think it's completely unfair to anyone that does their time in the minors and earns that call up, but what can ya do? It happens in the NHL as well, as we saw last year.

 

I think it's generally agreed upon that the quality of foreign leagues are not up to par with the MLB. NPB I believe is a best considered AAA. So while they were pros in another league so were Seager and Fulmer.
