No, player just has to be in the organization prior to Sept 1.

More to choose from for postseason roster

No idea if Merritt was on the 40-man roster, but as long as you're in the organization, you can replace an injured player.

you're a 100 win team that's been nothing but dominant all year long.... why throw in a guy in your lineup that hasn't played all year? baseball isn't as "chemistry focused" as other teams, but still, it seems like an unnecessary gamble move

He's been in the dugout all year and all post season until this trip to Arizona. He's worked out at Wrigley all summer.

He provides a (most likely) better left-handed bat against a very right-handed pitching staff, especially compared to La Stella and Coghlan.

Odds are he sees no field time and just DHs and pinch hits. If he DHs, my guess is he's in the 6th or 7th hole. Can't be less productive than Heyward.

Regardless of it all, he was going to be in the dugout. Might as well get some ABs.

Putting Schwarbs in there makes me incredibly incredibly nervous.

My nerves are not focused on us or Kyle at all. They're entirely on how good Cleveland is.

I have more faith in Schwarber than I do in the last 2 months of Tommy La Stella. He's done simulated games this past week at Wrigley and has more than likely been watching a lot of video all year.

Also, Schwarber is the Cubs all-time leader in postseason HRs

Did you see the video of the double? E3 all day, but he looked good running and sliding.

For those that care, Kenny Lofton and Carlos Baerga are throwing the celebratory first pitches in games one and two.

    Where are your friends tonight?

I saw a Kenny Lofton shirt at Lollapalooza this year and it was honestly one of the top three moments of the weekend.

If I had the audacity to complain about some aspect of the Cubs being in the World Series, which I do not, it would be about an All-Star game result giving home field advantage to the team with 9 less wins during the season.

But again, I have 71 reasons to not complain.
