I can't imagine a realistic scenario where the 2017 Braves are a playoff team, but it sounds like the team will be better next year than it was this year.

- Robert Gsellman (5th career mlb start)
- Bartolo Colon (he's 90 years old, but he's the man)
- Seth lugo (been pretty good actually)
- No idea yet (TBD!!!)

 

If it wasn't already clear that the Os won the trade, this leaves no doubt. I can't believe he pulled the "I grew up in Baltimore so I know black people and therefore am not racist" card

It'd certainly be a tough task. They've been impressive down the stretch. I think 2018 is the year they start to really compete, but with a good offseason, I wouldn't be surprised if they made a decent run at playoff contention next year. Pitching needs a lot of work though.

 

Yeah, I'd love to see it happen, don't get me wrong! It's gonna be really hard with the rotation as it is. Who is the #2 starter right now? Folty?

Not so fast

 

I genuinely can't imagine the emotions of a Dodger fan, or really any CA fan that gets exposed to him all the time. I grew up in NY and moved to CO, and I'm heartbroken about the inevitable - despite my not being his main audience.

At this point, to talk about him in just in terms of an announcer is almost perverse. He's very likely one of the greatest people involved in the history of professional sports - on or off the field. Hyperbole? I genuinely don't know. But I don't think so.

The fact that he has aged to a point where he wants to stop means science has failed mankind on some truly objectionable levels.

 

I think it was this episode of Effectively Wild where Sam Miller looked into some archives of profiles that were done over the decades that do a great job of capturing what has made Vin Scully so great and is a testament to how he's continously won the hearts of generation after generation of fans
