He did get promoted during it. He started in low A, and then got promoted to high A about 27 games ago. I think it is a pretty cool feat, he is younger than the average age in low and high A, so it isnt like he is playing at levels below his talent, he is among his peers and it is awesome that he could do it for 50 straight games. Only 3 people in the minors have ever gone longer than that and the most recent one was in 1954. Miguel Cabrera who is one of the best natural hitters of all time hasnt been able to go even 30 games in a row with a hit and has played in a relatively weak division pitching wise for a lot of his career.

I'm not saying that Mejia will ever amount to anything, or people should get excited that they have a top notch prospect, but it is pretty amazing that he was able to put this feat together.

I actually tweeted to one of the Indians Beat Writers (Hoynes - PD) and he replied saying defensively he still needs to develop as a catcher and catchers take longer to get through the minors. I guess to that point I'd say, if this kid is really good offensively already, and most great offensive catchers eventually change positions, why not just change his position now?

Plus, the Indians are obviously very high on Gomes (if the rumors are true that they promised Gomes the starting job over Lucroy - although that's a whole other convo) and he's locked up for 4 more years, then it's definitely something to think about when considering changing Mejia's position.

  4. Sheesh, where to even begin

    a) Hoynes is a dope (not that he's necessarily wrong, Mejia is excellent throwing out runners but the rest of his defensive game needs work)

    b) you keep him at catcher cus they believe he can stick there. His bat will play that much better there

    c) if you actually believe that shit about Gomes... (not that it was ever even "reported" that they promised the starting spot to Gomes over Lucroy, just that they wouldn't guarantee a future starting spot to Lucroy or anyone, because why would they)

Cleveland does not have a reputation as a stupid organization. They're not going to stick with Gomes if he doesn't figure it out. They didn't ride it out with Bourn or Swish or Johnson. He's been dreadful for just as long as he was excellent now and was one of the very worst hitters in franchise history this season.

Plus you're acting like the time lines for Gomes/Mejia are somehow incongruous. Mejia is probably at least two years away and by then, if Gomes is still around, it will just be matter of not picking up an option if they think Mejia will be an upgrade (or just keep him cus it's not like his salary ever gets particularly crazy)

If Gomes rebounds in a big way, you still have a hell of a trade chip in Mejia, who can be used to potentially get a guy as good as Lucroy. But his trade value isn't anywhere near that if he's no longer primarily a catcher.

I don't at all believe the Gomes over Lucroy rumors (or that Gomes was promised catching job) and have said as much in many posts throughout this thread, which is why I said that's a whole other conversation.

And yes, I'd say it's fair to expect a guy who just hit in 50 straight games to be big league ready in the next 2 years which very much coincides with Gomes time in Cleveland. And I'm not high on Gomes.

Such a bummer. I liked Eovaldi and really hoped he'd put it all together. Just hope the Yankees stay with youth for the next year and see what they have in Cessa, Green, Severino, Mitchell, Kaprelian. Warren can start too.

Acevado will probably be up before JK, cant rush kap since they shut him down this year.

Yeah I know he was injured. I'm not familar with Acevado, I'll have to look him up. Still between Green, Cessa and Severino they should be good next year with the rotation. Severino has too much talent to not figure it out. I hope lol.

Be sure to drink your Ovaltine.

The Yankees bullpen is utter dogshit right now. So much for Sanchez's big night.

  19. Meanwhile, I could cry it's so wonderful having Andrew Miller in my team's bullpen.

save this to quote me when Frazier hits two bombs in a single game against us next year

speaking of, it's been so nice and refreshing to see Tito is willing to use such a weapon appropriately, and just throw him out there whenever and not just strictly a particular inning

Lol Yankees fans on FB are still acting like they're blowing first place or something though. Like, they gave up on this season. The bullpen is horrid. Although Warren had been great. They win tmrw they can still win a series from the division leader. Like temper your expectations people. Yes, they're technically still in it but three top hitting prospects that all look really good so far aren't going to turn this team around overnight, and not going to drag the rest of this team into the playoffs. At least they're more fun to watch since the deadline.

P.S. I hate Ellsbury. He swings at everything right now. It's painful to watch.

As an Indians fan, I actually think Miller has been better now that Tito is using him in a solidified role (setup)...When he first came to Cle, Tito was throwing him in at all different points of a game (closer, 6th inning, 8th inning) and he struggled a bit at first (giving up 2 HR in his first 3 innings...only gave up 5 all year with NYY). I think he didn't know his role at first. Now it seems that Allen is the closer and Miller is the set-up, sometimes pitching two innings (7th and 8th) but Tito stopped bouncing him around. At least that is how it's been for the past week.
