    BOO

I don't know how to feel about his personal issues. I don't know anything other than the allegations. No charges were filed, but MLB suspended him. I know that's another complaint against him. The Cubs are made up of a lot of really good people. His attorney denying everything and the police not filing charges makes me hope they were all correct, for the girlfriend's sake (as in I hope she didn't actually get choked or anything because that's awful). Baseball-wise, though, I like the idea of having an elite closer. I'm just not completely sure how to feel on that front.

edit: the more I think about this, the more unsure I feel about it. I completely forgot about the personal stuff. I just got a little starry-eyed at the idea of a 105 mph fastball. If the deal goes through, I'll feel good about it for the Cubs. I love this team so much and I want them to succeed. I won't be able to share that feeling for him personally, though.

Looks like the deal is dependent on an extension

    Very interesting

It's all pretty tough to think about really when you think about it on a personal level and on a fan level.

Yeah, exactly. I see people saying they'll root for him as a player and not a person, which I guess I get. I more see myself rooting for the team, because it's very deeply rooted in me, and merely enjoying the benefits that come with having a closer of that ability?

Idk why the Yankees would extend him, they're also Chicago not Cincinnati... There's a high chance he'd want to stay lol

I meant extension for the Cubs

Extension for Chapman, I know. I just meant the Yankees would try to get him back. I dont know why that would be as big of a fear for the cubs, I feel like they still think it's four years ago with the way they make moves.

I guess they just gotta make sure before they give up their #1 prospect that he won't be a pure rental. Just seems weird because I've never heard of a trade hinging on a scenario quite like that.

Torres sounds like a great pickup but I'm sure the Yankees can get some good package for a pure rental. Sure that they want a chance to get back Chapman, like the Red Sox should've done with Lester.

I am very, very happy to give up Torres + other non-MLB players (Soler, Schwarber, Baez) for Chapman.

His personal issues, though, make it so conflicting. He denies choking his girlfriend, but firing off gunshots in his garage is still distressing and abusive behavior. I can't imagine what kind of fear I'd feel if I had an altercation with my significant other and then they went and fired off shots in the garage. I'd probably fear for my life. And it's hard to root for a player like that even if they can throw 104 MPH regularly.

I'm hoping some of the better baseball and Cubs writers having something to say about this aspect of the trade because I'd like to read some other perspectives.

    @ Astros fans.

This was my first time seeing Brady Rodgers pitch and he is so great. He lasted 7 innings with only 3 hits and 4 strikeouts.

Nothing else really impressive besides the fact just like the Astros, the Grizzlies hit a lot.

    Give what you can.

I don't give a shit if Chapman throws 200, I'm bummed he's probably going to be a Cub.

  13. Personal issues aside I'm happy it won't be the Tribe then cus that means we'd likely have to give up either Frazier or Zimmer if the Torres+ package is for real

On the same level it would probably be like McKenzie +, that dude looks like the real deal so far. Hes not ranked high everywhere else yet so it would be less known plus hes also a few years away where as Torres got signed young and has stood out for a few years

  15. I was just basing it off of Frazier/Zimmer and Torres all generally being ranked in the 20-30ish range currently in top 100s.

I'm trying not to get too excited about Triston cus he's so far away and we all know how pitching prospects often end up. But yeah, so far so good for sure

Apparently Sherman said Adam warren might be one of the multiple players coming back to NY if chapman is traded to Chicago lol

He also said it's almost definitely happening, they've carved out a deal with the Cubs. Hal gave his approval as well. Cubs are gonna love chapman. I'm gonna guess Torres, one random mid tier prospect that'll be up soon, a random young heralded foreign one and Adam warren.

  17. What a horrid move by the Cubs front office

Adam warren was garbage for them, he's not good.

I approve of this trade haha. Imagine what the Yankees would ask for someone to snag Miller now lol. Cubs probably put him out of reach for anybody.

It happens. You can't keep guys just to wait around for them for 5yrs when you're competing now and can add a piece to help you become an even better contender. They've made like no bad moves since Epstein took over, if it doesn't work they can afford one failed trade.

Sounds about right, barring someone else throwing in a better offer last minute.

It's really only Torres for chapman, unless the last player to be named is "someone" idk

But the value isn't really there or worth it for Chicago, especially if they only get him for two months (was an extension done?) and since I'd argue they don't need Chapman.
