Whenever a game is on Fox or ESPN, it's like they need to hit you over the head with a thousand different statistics to prove they're better than local broadcasts or something. Like do I really need to know Nova had a 43% whiff rate on sliders 5 years ago? Like give your fucking research departments a minute off, goddamnit.

I find it so hard to enjoy national broadcasts. Whenever the Cubs are on Fox or ESPN, I find myself wanting Len and JD so much. They know the team better, they have great chemistry, and they're insightful and funny.

Even when I watch other teams on national broadcasts, I'm just not enamored or captivated by the broadcasters.

I actually like Vasgersian and Verducci well enough but they just keep hitting you over the head with stats that like halfway through this game my brain was just like "okay, I'm out" lol

I'm not sure if it's still as true as it felt years ago, but I always thought some of ESPN's stats were ridiculous.

"This guy bats .385 against left-handed pitchers named Jon who were born in August, when playing on the road, when Mars is in retrograde."

    There's too many weird qualifiers.

They still do that on Sportscenter. Like "he's the youngest short stop under 6 foot that bats left handed to hit 6 HRs by May 1st in a leap year".

    Like oh? Cool? I guess?

I always laugh when they talk about a player being the first to do something incredibly specific. It's like of course they are, and there likely won't be another to do whatever it is.

woke up i'm in the in-between honey

Dave Flemming, who is a regular Giants broadcasters but also does multiple sports for ESPN including baseball, went into the downsides of national broadcasts quite a bit on Jonah Keri's podcast. It's a great listen in general but I enjoyed what he had to say about that particularly, since he actually works in the field, is on national broadcasts and is still annoyed by aspects of them that a lot of baseball fans are.

Motherfuck. The Sox keep losing these damn close games late.

  14. Cleveland has the best intra-divisional record in baseball behind the Cubs, and yet have somehow managed to lose almost all of the games they've played against the Twins. Silly baseball.

Two of the best infielders in the league.

Anyone paying attention knew Lindor was already one of them after last year. Would be fun if Ramirez can keep it up.

It hurts my heart to say this but I don't even want to go to any Braves games this season. Not even to say goodbye to the Ted.
