What's been everyone's favorite films/shows for the first half of the year? I'm treating this as a way for me to catch up. Haven't seen all too much. Everybody Wants Some has been my favorite film I'm about halfway through Horace and Pete but it blows everything else I've seen out of the water
some other good ones in no particular order Hail Ceasar A Bigger Splash Midnight Special for shows Idiotsitter is the only show I can think of that premiered in 2016, Lady Dynamite too, and my Crazy-Ex Girlfriend started in 2015 but this is the first season
Crazy Ex-Girlfriend is my favorite thing this year. other than the few episodes of steven universe that aired this year
Here's my current rankings. There's a lot I need to see still, obviously. I see mostly horror and kids movies The Invitation The Witch 10 Cloverfield Lane Hush The Conjuring 2 The Jungle Book Finding Dory Captain America: Civil War Batman v Superman Deadpool They Look Like People Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny Pride + Prejudice + Zombies The Boy Baskin Hardcore Henry X-men: Apocalypse Southbound
For TV the only things I've been watching are Casual, The Mindy Project, I finished 11.22.63, and I'm catching up on iZombie, Brooklyn 99, and Daredevil. Bo Burnham is the only stand-up I've watched
TV: 1. Kiznaiver 2. Erased 3. Vikings 4. Game of Thrones 5. Broad City 6. My Hero Academia 7. Girls 8. Daredevil 9. It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia 10. Greys Anatomy Film 1. Creed 2. Deadpool 3. Captain America: Civil War 4. Zootopia 5. Batman v Superman I haven't seen many films this year, lol. I do love my first 4 though.
Film (edited to remove Anomalisa, it was a top contender for #1 but came out in 2015): 1. Civil War 2. Deadpool 3. The Lobster (still some moves I need to see that I expect to be in the tops) TV: 1. Game of Thrones 2. Preacher 3. Daredevil (i don't watch a lot of tv)
just realized the only movies I've seen this year are Deadpool, Batman v Superman, and Civil War. This needs to change immediately
I feel like I haven't seen enough movies yet this year for a proper ranking but I did like: Midnight Special Popstar Civil War Deadpool Everybody Wants Some!! TV: The Americans is the best show on TV Game of Thrones Broad City Veep Silicon Valley Love were also great, as far as things whose seasons started this year (so none of the fall shows that continued into the Spring)
Mountains May Depart, Cemetery of Splendour, and Right Now, Wrong Then will probably remain very high in the top ten films of the year at the end of 2016. Asian cinema is at a creative high point right now.
Not kept up with film anywhere near recent years, but my top 10 are: Right Now, Wrong Then Knight of Cups Mountains May Depart Green Room Everybody Wants Some!! Sunset Song Cemetery of Splendour In the Shadow of Women Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping Dheepan The Lobster was in there prior to making this list, but I have cooled on it significantly in the two months since my second viewing. Midnight Special, Love and Friendship, and High Rise are all good but also missing a certain something that usually elevates the works of those directors for me. Hail, Caesar! has been my big disappointment in terms of films I was highly anticipating, but I've decided my reaction was based more on external stress at the time than the film itself. Hardcore Henry is far and away the worst thing I've seen this year.
Haven't seen The Witch or Midnight Special yet: 10 Cloverfield Lane (Dan Trachtenberg) A Bigger Splash (Luca Guadagnino) Everybody Wants Some!! (Richard Linklater) Eye in the Sky (Gavin Hood) The Fits (Anna Rose Holmer) Green Room (Jeremy Saulnier) Love & Friendship (Whit Stillman) Maggie's Plan (Rebecca Miller) The Shallows (Jaume Collet-Serra) The Wailing (Hong-Jin Na)
haven't even come close in seeing enough movies this year. a tonnnnnn i still need to see...thus far just a lot of horror movies for me. 1. Hateful Eight 2. Conjuring 2 3. The Witch 4. Independence Day 2.1 5. 10 Cloverfield Lane 6. Green Room 7. Everybody Wants Some 8. Zootopia 9. The Revenant 10. London Has Fallen 11. Approaching the Unknown
