This Red Wings offseason has been a dumpster fire. I knew Holland couldn't be trusted with cap space.

 

its so weird how quickly things change in the NHL

the Devils needed forwards for years, now it finally looks like they'll have a competent offense and their farm system is decently loaded with forwards

the D corps looks like its more in need of an upgrade at the moment

I can't wait to see Yzerman work some cap sorcery to rid of Bishop/Filpulla and manage to sign Kucherov to some long term good value deal

Was sorta hoping this wouldn't happen for the Bolts since he's dropped down their depth chart and that he'd hit the market.

Great deal for a guy who is only 24 and coming off a career-high 16 goal year.

It's weird because I don't know if Calle is going to be much better than he was this year, but he was pretty solid and by signing for such a long time he is pretty much saying, "this is how much I value myself" and that's kind of weird to me. It's a team friendly deal if he continues to improve. It is definitely weird when you see a player sign a long term deal at a lower salary like that. It's weird for both sides.

As of now, I think Nashville will be pretty happy with the deal overall. I'm just surprised considering he's an RFA and usually those guys will go for the bridge deals rather than the long term ones, unless a ton of money is involved.

 

I think the Bishop trade is going to end up getting them a really good return. I'm not sure what the Filppula contract is like anymore, but I'd imagine he has like 3 years left? I think he's a good enough player that they could find a taker for the right trade. He has a reputation as a good defensive forward, and while he has a bloated salary, it isn't like he has just fallen over and become a healthy scratch quality player. He's a good player who can contribute... just find the right team with the right need.

Two things I thought about the deal, because it is strange. If he improves then Nashville has a really really good trade chip with his contract, and that's also a very friendly contract for the Las Vegas come expansion draft time.
