I hate the rangers, when they're good they have the worst fans of all time.

  2. If he comes to Carolina he can be in Bojangles commercials.

I'm a Sabres fan but him going to Arizona or Carolina might actually make me happier than if he came here. Hearing the specific types of Canadian fans that would freak out, freak out, would be unendingly entertaining

True, I just think people are completely counting them out. Just making a point. I mean idk much about the world of hockey endorsements really.

They're still 7.5 million under that cap floor. More than enough room to throw Stamkos a max deal

Absolutely, but a Canadian market would unquestionably provide him with so many more opportunities for endorsement deals than a U.S. hockey market.

Interesting, haven't heard their name mentioned at all though. It would be a great way to excite their fan base for sure. I'd just be happy if he didn't go to Detroit/boston at this point.

  11. Arizona's GM is only a year older than Stamkos. Haha

it would have to be significantly more. Not only are the tax rates higher but the endorsements would also be in CAD, which is worth about 25% less than USD right now. so you're looking at needing probably 40% more endorsements to match US.

I still don't think he thinks about this stuff as much as we do

If the Blackhawks and Kings can continue to have a unlimited cap. I'm sure the Coyotes can also.

That's all I want is all these original 6 teams to freak out when he chooses a small market team over them.

I don't think he's going there, nor have I heard that they even have interest, but it won't be for lack of money

Do you guys know how much NHL players get taxed in the USA? In Canada we need to pay them in USD so for example if Jacob Troubas new salary is 6M he will actually be making 7.8M Canadian. In Manitoba he would only be taking home 4.2M Canadian due to taxes. I wonder if it is actually a benefit to play in the USA over CAD due to taxes.

  16. Not that I think he's going to Carolina (I doubt we even make an offer), but I think it's funny when articles say Stamkos in Carolina is a "bad fit". How he is a bad fit on any team? If you have Stamkos and something isn't working, it's probably not because of him. And if he tells you "I wanna play for your team" you make it happen.

he is a bad fit because that isn't (insert big market team)

tax law for pro athletes is confusing as shit. game checks get taxed based on where the actual game is played so they vary a lot. When you're selecting a team you're basically selecting where you want to pay half the taxes on your game checks and the other half depend on the schedule. This is also why you're seeing a lot of deals recently that get paid mostly in signing bonuses (like Ryan O'Reilly's), that way you avoid the double tax of where you play and your nation of residence.

This is a guy who said Canes were moving to Vegas and that Chara should be healthy scratched "to send a message"

Of course I'd like Stamkos but I'm still a little scared of big deals after the Semin/Ward contracts.

Peter Holland is among the Leafs who received a qualifying offer before the 5 p.m. deadline because we don't have any centres with NHL experience.

    M. Jordan not being qualified by the Canes is the best news I've read this offseason

It seems like a lot of "big" name RFA that didn't get qualified this year.

I'm hoping the Sharks can pick up at least one solid depth defenseman because of this.
