I hope I come around too. Olympic hockey is some of my favourite, or was anyways.

 

Don't get me wrong - Olympic hockey is SO fun to watch. But I just think the race for lord Stanley is the most important.

But yeah it is a little sad that we won't see these players on that stage for a while

no Olympics for the NHL for 2018 or 2022 based on the stories I've read. they were basing next years participation on whether or not they would in 2022

 

It's not been echoed here but it's still weird to see some parts of the internet not ok with this decision.

like the IOC is corrupt as heck and there is no benefits at all for the NHL to protect its players. I get the whole play for your nation but at some point, NHL has to get something in return.

Going to see the Flyers on my birthday every year is bittersweet. Can't remember the last time it actually meant something.

My cousin bought me a ticket for tonight's Bruins game with the sole purpose of getting him one of the Brad Marchand bobbleheads.

 

Anecdotal evidence but I know a few people who became hockey fans after the 2010 Olympics. It helps that that was one of the greatest games every played. Then last Olympics we had shootout hero TJ Oshie and I had a few non hockey people asking me about that at work and stuff. But more people casually tune in to the Olympics so why not send your best players to promote your league? Olympic hockey is really the only event I watch and now I'm not even excited about it. Russia is gonna dominate since they can just send all their best KHL players.

 

I bet the NHL would go if they got media rights
