I think it's because while Burrows is a UFA, he's expected to sign a two-year extension with OTT, whereas Vanek is a UFA and there's probably no guarantee that he'll extend with FLA

Thomas Vanek 38 points in 48 games and a pending UFA was traded for 2018 3rd round pick and Dylan Mcllarth and Detroit retained salary.

Jannick Hansen has 13 points in 28 games and a pending UFA was traded for 2017 4th round pick conditional becoming first round pick and Nikolay Goldobin. Vancouver also retained some salary.

Hansen has a year left at 2.5 mil, to be fair

If I were to do a comparable for Sharks to Vanek trade it probably be

Demelo + 4th or Goldobin + 4th.

I don't think Red Wings would wan Sharks 3rd in 2019.

 

I really wish the Wings would've started a rebuild earlier. The playoff streak screwed us over.
