Blues haul sounds worse than Hanzal haul and Hanzal is a third liner. Woof.

Something that has been really bugging me is a lot of fans of these teams justifying paying some of these awful deals because of a weak draft.

It just seems like the laziest cop out ever. Yeah it doesn't produce some super high end talent like we've been blessed but teams should still be trying to build through every draft.

 

As much as I love the man, the Caps still won't win the cup because

 

I'm an awful person so I hope every team who wanted to go all in loses in the first round.

I'm looking at you Wild and Caps.

 

I know Poile is going to make a trade, likely for another forward, but I'm really not a fan of deadline trades in this sport. Too much risk of messing with team chemistry.

Looking at you, Cody fucking Franson.

 

It's beyond stupid. Rangers or Blue Jackets would have such an easy path to the conference finals if they get the wild card & play in the Atlantic bracket.

 

I enjoy seeing the Wild and Blues get the short end of these trades.

And yes we fucking sold the farm at last year's deadline for jack shit.

 

This makes for some good yucks all around, particularly since we have 0 cap space for that deal and the Kings want to add another non-forward

 

Blues trade Copley back from the Oshie trade. Haha.

Of course the Wild are one of the only teams to win coming off their bye, and with two top 6 players out.

 

My thoughts exactly. I'm a Flyers fan so I feel your pain. Best division in hockey imo. Caps are definitely trying to get Ovie the cup.

 

As Washington should. Gotta maximize the last few years of Ovie in his prime. Shattenkirk is right in that window. My comment was also a nod to the Rangers and Pens that are playing at really high levels along with some of the other talent "stuck" in the division. This reminds me of when Columbus was in the west for the last couple years and were in a really deep division.

 

McNeil and Pokka in play apparently. A bit hesitant about moving Pokka though, we could use a right-handed shot in the future

The Athletic is making it an insanely difficult decision to not pay for a subscription. So many good hockey/basketball writers moved over to it -- at least for the Toronto section.

 

The Cleveland page launches tomorrow for the Athletic and I know they have one of the better Cavs beat writers. Not sure who else, but they seem to be making a big push. I haven't been to the website. Is it all subscription based?
