Goodell thinks a guy watching himself be picked over for something dumb is what makes the draft exciting. :ok:

Actually, what would make the draft exciting is if he tripped and smashed his face on the podium.

Love Hoyer as a backup. Infinitely better than Jimmy Clausen. I'm still holding out hope that they keep David Fales around, teams including the Pats were sniffing around him last season so they signed him to active roster.

Just realized in week 1 Hoyer returns to Houston. Should be well received.

I feel so bad for him though, hope he does great as a backup in CHI.

I didn't even think he would get drafted at all, they must really think he's "something" to go ahead and do it.

At least the Rams doing the same thing is warranted because fisher is a bozo, plus the obvious talent factor.

I just looked at the saints depth chart and who they have a guard gave me a big chuckle, when unger is injured Brees will have absolutely no room to step up

Tyreek Hill is a fantastic skill player. But his actions off the field made him undraftable in my mind.

I'm all for second chances, but not for things like that.

They took Demarcus Robinson too, not as bad of a situation as hill I'm guessing.

  23. After looking over the guys the Panthers picked up I'm pretty excited to see how they all pan out. Just looking at from a distance the draft seems fairly disappointing. A DT in the first round when we have one of the best young DT combos in the league followed by 3 CBs in a row, one of which I'd never even heard of before. But the more I thought about it the more I really like the direction Gettleman went in this draft.

Sure, it would've been nice to get a DE or DB in the first but I think Butler's value was higher than what was available at the time. Dwan Edwards played 50% of our defensive snaps last season and he is no longer on the team. So despite having the Short and Star combo, depth is very important to Gettleman and Rivera considering how much playing time our backup guys get every week. We also didn't have a pass rushing DT outside of Short. We have nice depth with run-stuffers with Star, Love, and Soliai and now we have two pocket disrupters. Ideally, we should be able to create constant pressure up the middle which will make things easier for our DEs and LBs. CJ appears to be healthy and Ealy is coming off somewhat of a breakout season. I have a good feeling about the front seven this season.

As far as the CBs are concerned, they aren't the studs that were hyped leading up to the draft but they are exactly the type of players needed for our system. It appears Gettleman was looking for specific physical characteristics and all three of these guys have them. Bradberry and Worley are both big bodies with great arm-length and fit perfectly for our zone scheme. Zach Sanchez is quick, aggressive ballhawk who should be slotted in the nickel position. I'm not claiming that all three guys will be All-Pro level like Norman was but all three are players that Wilks (one of the best DB coaches in the league) can mold into the type of players we covet. It was important to add volume because the only reliable CBs on the roster prior to the draft were Bene and Boykin. I still think we could sign a vet to come in and take pressure off the rookies. Cromartie is a possibility or Tillman who said he wants to play one more season. That'd give us 6 CBs for the season.

Then you look at the two "big" udfa signings, Keyarris Garrett and Jeremy Cash. Garrett is another giant WR to along with KB and Funch. He's obviously not even a guarantee to make the roster but his size and speed are intriguing. He seems to have really improved his catching-ability as he only had 3 drops on 99 targets this past season. Limited route-tree but he is likely going to be viewed as a vertical threat so I don't think that'll be a big issue. Cash is pretty awful in coverage but he's also the reigning ACC DPOY (over Lawson and Ramsey) and an unanimous first team All-American due to his phenomenal play against the run. I think we'll use him similar to the way Arizona has been using Bucannon. He should also play a big role in special teams coverage. But if Cash can improve his coverage skills he has potential to be a very nice SS down the road.

This is my Randall post of the offseason. Sorry.
