Whats funny is the original rumor was the Saints might give back their #32 pick back to NE for Butler. Now, its looking like they'll get even more.

So, in an overall scheme, they'll trade Malcolm Butler and #32 and a 4th, and get back Cooks and a higher 1st...teams always handing NE what they want

that being said, CB isn't really THAT big of a need with Maxwell, X. Howard, and Lippett. I wouldn't mind drafting one in the mid to late rounds but trading a 1st for one really makes no sense

we need to use that pick on an EDGE or LB

The Saints or whoever the hell trades for Butler don't have to give New England a first. Butler isn't going to sign his tender.

It hurts them to trade him, so I hope they just get another second for him and then draft some garbage rugby special teamer in the second.

Logical me: Bouye had 1 great season with the Texans and couldn't crack the starting lineup before that while Butler has had 2 great seasons with the Patriots and Texans may see him as a more viable long term option. However, Bouye is younger than Butler which makes it a bit closer. Maybe they think they can get Butler cheaper? I don't know.

Fan me: Why the fuck didn't we just keep Bouye if we were gonna go for Butler.

Its funny, the deal Bouye signed is probably just about the correct market value for Butler. And the leverage he'd have as having been traded for probably makes the deal even higher. Market is basically set at $12.5-15mil for the top CBs.

Paying a 2nd rounder for it definitely seems dumb

Yikes re: Lacy. The Packers' backfield is scary as hell right now, and not in a good way.

If Malcolm Butler for a 2nd is seriously what we cleared cap space for I'll be so broken

I can't imagine they're just gonna move forward with Montgomery in that backfield. They have to draft an RB right?

You said you wanted to get rid of all 2nd rounders...

Like I'm sure Butler would be good for the Texans or whatever but come on, we have Kevin Johnson and he's a great defensive back, do we really need to clear space and trade picks for a top corner? Is that really our biggest need right now?

    RE: Pats DBs.

I will caution you ahead of time that Patrick Chung was very good in that Pats secondary. He goes to the Eagles and is diarrhea. He leaves the Eagles after being cut and goes back to the Patriots and is very good again. Hope that same fate doesn't hit you if this happens.

Like honestly even if he came to us and was really good I'd be upset with the move. The only way I wouldn't be is if the front office knew something I didn't about Kevin Johnson's last injury, and even then I'd rather just keep Bouye as a fan.

But if #99 is even 70% of what he was in 2015 our corner depth doesn't worry me in the slightest. We don't have to have insane depth at corner all the time with that kind of presence.

I definitely hope this Butler talk is all bullshit.

Pats are gonna turn around and turn these picks into players that are good

Yeah as a Saints fan who also grew up in South Florida watching Dolphins games/hating the Patriots I don't know what to feel. I get it for New Orleans, though, if their main concern is just getting proven players and making a go at it the next couple years and then rebuilding after Brees. Just put, like, a 28th-ranked defense around him and see what happens.

    28th?

  18. Why? We don't need a great running game to be successful on offense

    Plus we're gonna draft McCafferty

  19. I'm glad we signed House too

Mostly not serious, but anything better than the record-setting awfulness of the last four years would be a major improvement, yeah.
