If you sign a RFA, don't you give up YOUR pick in the following draft? I.e. this would be for the 2018 draft or is it for the current?

you're probably thinking of the NHL but the draft comes first, which is why an RFA offer sheet scenario would have to be the next year's picks

This is correct, its for the current year. That said, Im surprised Butler is in NO...he could have gone there via the trade but wouldnt sign his tender.

 

I don't think the offer sheet or first round tender have to be involved in a trade if both sides agree to it. So if New Orleans can sign him to a deal he wants and New England agrees to the compensation they offer, a trade can be made without NO giving up their first.

 

How truly amazing would it be if the Pats are able to trade Butler to NO for #32 back (assuming Butler signs their offer sheet)?
