That's news to me, honestly. I mean I know people praise Marshall now since he turned things around and does great charity work.

 

sports threads and politics is always a fun time.

 

Not really, but go ahead judge me or whatever.

 

I'm just saying there are two people being criticized here; one for standing up against injustice and another for disagreeing with the former's stance. Apparently the latter is the side more worth fighting for.

this is hands down the most important thing he's ever done. good on him. enormous respect.

 

But at the same time people have a right to disagree as well. But it seems like to you its completely wrong for someone to disagree.

 

The way people react to others simply not saying the pledge is pretty alarming. Let's not even start on the Gabby Douglas thing and how racially specific that seemed to be.

Alarming that someone would attack your character for not showing complete lockstep reverence for the US.

 

why is the anthem important in the first place? why should he have to stand?

 

I believe it came to be during the rise of communism, no? Some bullshit nationalistic propaganda.

literally nobody has made an actual argument other than "there's a time and a place and that's not on the field", which is the worst argument because the people who think sports and politics shouldn't mix are the worst, because sports (especially football and basketball) are very embedded within racial issues

 

A supposed respect for vets. Empty lip service from how poorly they are treated in this country.

 

DGB is going to be a great pickup.

 

Especially considering we gave up a guy who probably would have made the team just because the Eagles OL depth isn't very good but really, Dennis Kelly is terrible. So even if DGB does nothing (which I don't see), the gave up basically nothing.

 

Can we not?

 

People seem to be of the belief that the existence of an opinion alone ensures its legitimacy. You have the right to think otherwise but that right does not mean your opinion is one truly worth having. The only thing that's been said was it was the wrong place. No one makes any legitimate claim as to why it's the wrong place. Or why every place this message is brought up is deemed the "wrong place." But you know, blah blah blah.

i don't get why sports fans are so allergic to serious issues mixing with their sports. football players are amongst the most recognizable and respected black public figures in the world, they are the ones that are very important to make a stand

 

Not to mention, it's not like he actually said those things on the field. It was after the game in an interview where he was asked about it.

If he chose to say it on the field though more power to him

Both of these are my stance. I could certainly question whether or not Kaep's actual approach is the smartest, but I wont question his right to do so in that moment.

But its understandable that an NFL fan would react poorly to this, beacuse the league has worked so hard to deny any public statements by athletes such as this, as well as their players having stances on issues that arent exactly what the league believes

Remember, this is the same league that spent a day hand-wringing over a rookie player being seen on a tour of a legal business before a game. That business just happened to be a marijuana dispensary.

i often ignore these threads because comments are generally terrible all the time by everyone but i got summoned and had to check this out

My brother and friends in the military appreciate it.

In any case I don't see what the big deal is. He can sit if he wants. The paycheck still comes in.
