Either way, that statement means 1 of 2 things.

The Chargers are gonna have to buckle on one of their contentions to allow Joey to save face and accept a deal

Or Joey Bosa will never play a snap for the Chargers

Both are wasting the value of a #3 pick in some form

Fair points. Didn't really look at it like that. The Chargers are certainly at fault throughout the entire thing without a doubt. It was just the particular instance that gave me pause.

I dont understand what the chargers are going to do with the change they put in their pocket for every player they rip off though. What are they gaining with this nonsense they pull all the time?

I mean, to be squabbling over something so small is definitely dumb for both sides. But, I understand Bosa not budging on principle. And now they just put him in a spot that he cant give in.

I dont understand why the billion dollar franchise wont budge either, they really expect the player who has to play his ass off for the next 4-8+ years(hopefully) with no legit guarantees to though... Ridiculous

Another interesting thing I found is this from the PFT article

(There’s also a disagreement on the language and amount of training-camp roster bonuses, which are now common in top-10 rookie deals including offset language.)

I guess a lot of players have turned part of their annual salary into training camp roster bonuses, so, in years 3 and 4, if the team wants to cut them, they have to do it before the cut to 53, cause they'll have paid out a bunch of money to the guy already. Smart idea for the players too.

If Im Joey and they want offsets, want me to defer a ton of money to March 2017, and wont give me the training camp bonus...then yeah, Id be pissed.

What's the next course of action here? Can he just like, leave?

So, if he's not signed by Week 10, he cant be signed and he goes back into the draft in 2017

Thus, if Im Bosa, I now sit til Week 10 (sort of like franchise tag guys do) and play chicken with them. And then I imagine the Chargers would try and trade him in 2017 to get something back?

I believe there is a deadline at some point this season that if he is not signed, he may re-enter the draft next year

I could be wrong on that though

why not sign him to whatever he wants and then trade him now then?

hahaha, if the Redskins trade for a dude who retires...that would be incredible

It was a conditional pick so it wouldn't be a big deal, just sucks because they could use the upgrade at center.

Because they eat a $25mil cap hit the second they trade him. And they have $7mil in cap space.

I mean, they could pull it off if they converted all of River's salary to signing bonus and maybe another guy. But, man, that'd be a huge hit, and you probably dont get a 1st rounder back in return.

But, a team would probably LOVE to trade for him, cause if they dont have to eat signing bonus money on their cap, his deal is super team friendly

This is how I've felt about it. At this point it's more how the Chargers have handled him and treated him like his legitimate concerns make him greedy and entitled than the actual issue itself

I'll be surprised if we see Bosa on the field for the Chargers at all now. They fucked up.

    Yeah...they win with this

We will say, that it is ironic that the team now takes issue with the timing of Joey’s arrival, since the Chargers unilaterally decided to remain silent for the first 14 days of training camp instead of replying in a timely fashion to the proposal we made on the eve of training camp on July 28th.

I hope he sits out the year and gets drafted next year and becomes one of the best players in the league.
