Yeah, seems pretty obvious the problem is that they've failed at drafting CBs forever. Keenan Lewis was a 3rd rounder that was successful, then instantly left in FA. Since the 2009 draft, we've taken a 4th, a 5th, a 3rd, a 4th, a 7th, a 5th, and a 5th on CBs through 2014. Only one made it past his rookie deal, and that was such a failure he was cut a year after that new deal. Multiple of them never made it out of training camp. So thats definitely a low-balling strategy that failed.

So, 2015 and 2016 is a new strategy. It didnt start well with our 2nd rounder potentially never playing a snap for this team, but we'll likely have at least 1 of the 4 picks starting at CB, and another probably playing nickel. By next year, all our starting DBs should be comprised of recent draft picks.

The Jaguars went from Davon House and nobody (its hard to even quantify Davon House as a good corner so much as just an average corner with upside)... to having Prince Amukamara, Tashaun Gipson, and Jalen Ramsey and depending on how that goes we might get a clear cut answer on just how important it is to invest in your secondary. So far through practices and preseason our defense looks WAYYYYYY better because of it.

I've decided my fantasy football name this year is JalenBenet Ramsey. Got the idea based on someone else's fake band name in another thread.

Raiders should reach out to Bosa as soon as it's within the rules to do so. Quickest way to get up there defensively with KC and Denver on that front 4 as well as totally snubbing their biggest rival

How was that anything but Bosa's fault?

I'm aware of the article but this is a new offer that was still rejected despite being very generous. Could still be the Chargers fault somewhere in contract but based on that image alone I don't see it.

Yeah, there's definitely something in that contract that they aren't revealing, otherwise Bosa probably would've taken it. I'm sure his side is going to be putting out a statement soon as well.

Well. Read what a few of those lines are actually saying.

"More money in this calendar year than any other..." is saying they are trying to hold a lot of money into the next league year. That was the problem up front, and they are admitting that hasnt changed. Bosa wants his signing bonus up front, not half of it left to the 2017 league year.

"The largest signing bonus and highest payment since 2011..."
That was always going to be true. The 11th pick was the highest they've had since 2011 til this year. And even if they had the #1 or #2 pick in 2011, the money is higher now that #3 makes more.

And note what is absent. Any mention of the offset. So, they wanted to defer money into 2017 and they wanted an offset. No contract in the top 10 has those, and no #3 pick has ever had both of those. So Bosa held his ground. And the Chargers just put out a statement that, as far as I can tell, confirms that they dont want to handle contracts how most other NFL teams handle contracts.

As to the first point, its either a blatant lie, or they are parsing how signing bonuses are literally paid. If it comes in 4 checks, then they are saying "Joey got 26% while everyone else usually gets 25%," which is kind of a stupid point.
