I don't agree that Alex Smith has been the same thing. Alex Smith has literally always been in an offense designed to suit him. I don't think he's as dependent as Mariota on zone blocking to give him moving protection that follows him while he scrambles in the pocket... he really only scrambles when there's heavy pressure to one side. And outside of that aspect, Smith HAS always been in a West coast short pass/YAC heavy scheme.

Lol I just still can't get over that. They traded away the ability to take the best player in the draft. Then they traded up and traded away several of the extra players they could have gotten in return. Then they selected the second or third best tackle in this draft while the best one was on the board because he smoked weed 4 years ago.

So anticlimactic for a team that had so much hype and so many options all offseason. They could've literally taken both Ramsey and Jack instead of us and they are going to regret that they didn't haha.

 

I like Mariota but it definitely seems like they will be the bottom-feeders of that division for at least a little while.
