Drew, while i agree with the general sentiment, this is ignoring how big the potential of winning a national championship is for the players. Sure, fuck nick saban, but he wouldn't be the only person on the team benefitting from playing in the playoffs.

As per the NDSU conversation, I went to the University of Richmond (made the semi-finals last year against NDSU), and my friends on the team told me that if NDSU moved up, they'd be in the middle of the pack in the ACC. Given that these guys have played the likes of Maryland, NC State, and UVA the past few years, I'm willing to take their word for it. Obviously this year's iteration of NDSU is a drop off, but last year's iteration was probably plenty good enough to finish the middle to middle bottom of the ACC.

Definitely could beat Kansas 8 out of 10 times.

 

I don't know, Kansas was good once ten years ago.

And yeah, NDSU in the Big 12 would be huge for recruiting.

 

I think North Dakota would have to rebuild the whole program considering their recruits vs everyone elses, also who the hell wants to play in dakota...? Especially right now.

It would be a tough road, is it possible? Sure.

 

Nebraska and Oklahoma are powerhouse teams historically. Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan, and New York all have teams too.

 

Are you comparing those places to the Dakotas? I'm unsure of the argument here. I think it could happen but they would have to win to make their team more attractive vs other teams who have a longer tenure in the b12

 

sitting out a playoff? that's going too far... then you really are abandoning your team, a team who mostly will not go to the NFL, during a time they need you most.

 

yes, the weather is awful in all of those states, but they all differ from the dakotas in that they have actual cities with actual civilization cmon

apparently for the draft. i dont think the choice will harm mccaffrey or fournette at all but i don't see anyone taking someone who was suspended for a month and then skipped out on the bowl game and wasn't a major prospect to begin with

 

I'm more or less saying it wouldn't bother me if a top player who is top 10 projected pick skipped the playoff games

 

And when you break your leg or tear an acl I bet those same teammates will pitch in the couple of millions of dollars you lost!!!!

 

i know what you're saying. i don't think we see that happening. i think fournette plays if LSU was in the playoff. he has nothing at stake with LSU playing in the citrus bowl. playoff stakes are different.

I'm picky about cities. Football players aren't as much. The program matters a lot. Fargo has more people than a lot of college towns, don't know what your trying to say here.

 

it seemed like you were implying that north dakota wouldn't have a tough time building a program because it's similar to wisconsin, among other states. i'd say there's a pretty monumental difference between fargo and madison, which also has milwaukee right down the road. madison's population is double fargo's and milwaukee is more than double madison's.

 

This is such a slippery slope though...how long until this logic extends to sitting out games in a contract year in the NFL?

 

I mean, what's a tough time? Hundreds of people every year agree to play in the far north of this country and to live in shitty places (and I've been to many worse places than Fargo, like Norman, Oklahoma). You can recruit. Their biggest obstacles are financial.

i realize that, but it's still similar logic. You can get injured in any football game.
