Big in-state universities always tend to carry a rivalry, even if not playing annually.

Just remember kids, why schedule Oklahoma as a non conference game and win when you can schedule Pitt as a non conference game and lose and it won't affect your playoff status is some people's minds.

Ohio State should be penalized for not being a conference champ and dropped to fourth if they do get in.

a few years ago OSU and Clemson had a really fun bowl game. committee probably seeing $$$ with that potential matchup so i could see this final 4 layout being what they do, then leading to either a potential rematch for the NC (another big $$$ probability) or Saban vs Meyer Pt.2 (at current schools) which makes more $$$

Honestly forgot about that Oklahoma win for a second. That should make OSU a shoe in because OU will probably be 7 this week

for some reason read "OSU" as Oklahoma State for the first time in my life - probably because they played today - and thought "what? shoe in for what? didn't they lose by 18?"

    i'm too tired.

lol people giving reasons for why Alabama is #1. like any reason other than being the only P5 undefeated team needs to be mentioned.

  9. Winning your conference is not a requirement to make the playoff - I get what you are saying though

The committee's only job is to select the best four teams and it'd be shortsighted of them to not look at each team's full resume and only focus on one or two games

Memories are nice, but that's all they are. Prestigious

Washington reminds me a lot of the MSU Rose Bowl team so I'll be rooting for them hard

I firmly believe two conflicting thoughts:

    1) OSU is the second best team in the country.
    2) Conference champs should get in over teams that couldn't win a conference.

I think this year's instance will be a rare occurrence. But how the committee handles it will set precedents. Which will be interesting as Baylor and TCU both missed out on chances two years ago for not being a conference champ game winner.

    Alabama
    Washington
    Clemson
    OSU

    PSU v. USC
    Auburn v. Oklahoma
    FSU v. Michigan
WMU v. Wisconsin or Louisville, i think

I agree. It's just a very rare case this year I think.

  14. This is apples to oranges but when it comes to the seeding in the NCAA tournament for basketball they look at a team's overall resume and not just winning the conference - there have been years where teams win their conference tournament and still get a seed that is higher than the team that didn't win the conference

if it was a six team playoff, would it be:

    Alabama
    Ohio State
    Clemson
    Washington
    Penn State
    Oklahoma

    ?

wondering if it would be even harder to decide 6 or 8 instead of 4 with how the championship games went lol

  16. That is exactly what the final four should be

  17. Michigan would have to be in there over Oklahoma

  18. The best solution is 8 - power 5 conference champs get auto bids and then three at larges

So this year you would have Bama Washington Clemson Penn State and Oklahoma and then round it out with Ohio State Michigan and maybe a team like USC

Which I guess is the main difference between 68 teams and 4 ;)

But yeah. OSU is 11-1 and deserves to be in. I won't dispute their resume. In what I'm guessin will prove to be a rare case, their one loss is 11-2 and their conference champ. It's just interesting.

LOL - Herbstreit just said, "it's not like Ohio State went out and played Bowling Green and Hawaii and Tulsa..." and then talked about their great OOC schedule.

aside from Oklahoma, Ohio State PLAYED BOWLING GREEN AND TULSA THIS YEAR.

    go home Herbstreit lol

  21. So an 8-team playoff would be

    Bama
    Ohio State
    Clemson
    Washington
    Penn State
    Michigan
    Oklahoma
    USC?

    That'd be so fun.

is a six team playoff even an argument? 8 teams is the only other option that makes logical sense

    Michigan for sure.

I say give Western Michigan the last spot and see what they can do.
