Since losing to Vanderbilt, Tennessee has had five commits decommit. Everything is fine.

Also there's a local rumor picking up A LOT of steam that Butch Jones is going to be named Purdue's head coach as early as Sunday.

In what world would that be a good move for him?

He lost the fan base and he probably wisely wants to get out of Knoxville where he's highly recognizable because there are a bunch of dumb rednecks around here is my guess. He turned down Purdue and Colorado to come here, so he's been linked to them before.

What's crazy is people have tracked down charter flights from Knoxville to Indiana to prove this rumor.

If it brings in Les, I'm all for it. But I expected another year.

I'm gonna go ahead and say that Michigan getting in under any scenario is absurd

Clemson and Washington lose... Bama, Ohio State, Wisconsin/Penn St, Michigan? Or Colorado?

Three from one conference would be a bit wild.

Washington's ranked ahead of Michigan now. If this is supposed to be a ranking of the teams' body of work, shouldn't Washington be fine if they beat top 10 Colorado while Michigan is idle? Michigan could also get jumped by Wisconsin or Penn State.

I agree. Washington wins, doesn't matter margin, and they're in.

I mean, shit, with a win on Saturday I think Oklahoma deserves it more than Michigan, and they're a long shot to begin with. A two loss team that didn't win its conference or division? Get the fuck out of here

    God these rankings blow.

    1. Alabama
    2. Washington
    3. Ohio State
    4. Clemson
    5. Michigan
    6. Wisconsin
    7. Colorado
    8. Oklahoma
    9. Penn State
    10. Oklahoma State

There's your top 10, with the caveat that Clemson/Wisconsin jump Ohio State/Michigan respectively with conference championship wins. If Wisconsin and Clemson both win... well, then either Wisconsin or OSU gets left out and it's difficult to complain too much either way. There's no fucking way we should be discussing Michigan getting in over Washington or the B1G champion.

damn. anyone think firing Helfrich was a little quick? or does the school just see some sort of pattern in poor recruiting with him as coach? Two great seasons, 1 solid season, and 1 awful season = firing is weird

It was a consistent and incredibly rapid turn from national championship game to 4-8 and an utter inability to play defense.
He inspired no confidence that he could be the one leading the team to consistent success which has become the expectation in Eugene.
The prevailing sentiment is he succeeded early with chip's guys and an all-time great playing QB.
Once most of those guys were gone and it was truly his team everything fell apart

I'd be cool with Chip going back. Christopher Peterman/son owns him

They didn't exactly play defense much when Chipper was there, did they or am I missing something?

Never quite "elite" but we had some pretty good defensive teams and have sent a lot of guys to the league.
Our defensive numbers were also always hurt due to how much time they had to spend on the field with how quickly we were scoring.
