Then you would be lost to Stanford in the first round instead of Alabama? :p

Houston would have gotten in, not Notre Dame, and Oklahoma and Iowa aren't in the same conference.

You're right. Completed missed Houston while scanning the final CFP rankings from last year. I always get Iowa not being in the Big 12 wrong mentally. Try this again:

    1. Clemson vs. 8. Notre Dame (I'm sure if Notre Dame is in the top 8 they get in because Notre Dame is "special", otherwise this is now FSU)
    2. Alabama vs. 7. Stanford
    3. Michigan State vs. 6. Iowa -- still is the rematch of the previous conf champ game
    4. Oklahoma vs. 5. Houston

See...when Stanford was clicking at the end of last year with that OL & McCaffrey....a matchup v. Bama would have been excellent.

Instead they were left out and went and stomped a mudhole in Iowa instead.

TCU demolished Ole Miss the first year as well.

I thought TCU and Baylor both were better playoff candidates than Ohio State that year, but OSU got in because of the Conf Champ. Which seems incredibly ironic two years later when they seem to be locks without one.

Hey we would've scored at least!

It's not like every NFL playoff team is title worthy every year, but they get the chance to prove they are by virtue of qualifying for the playoff.

i'm writing a book, leave me alone.

Some could say - why do they deserve another shot when they've had two and failed.

Let's not mix the two. Lots of people don't like how the NFL system is set up (division winners at 8-8 or something while an 11-5 team gets left out or plays on the road)

Right but that's what makes college unique. no bullshit champions.

The NFL playoffs is in no way perfect.

And to say there wouldn't be argument with an 8 team playoff... I mean we have a 68 team basketball tournament and yet we still pull our hair out when a team gets left out

Some could also be wrong, if we're talking 8 teams.

Uhh idk man. have you seen the dick Vitale rants on selection Sunday? I know I'm one of those people too.

There will alwayyyyys be angst when there's a "selection system".

Only one team has the potential to be sorta "screwed" with 4 teams and that's Penn state. a 2 loss power conference champ who beat the at large team.

But even with PSU they still lost to Pitt and got smoked by Michigan so I can't cry about it

    The rivalry is back on

Logistically speaking, how do you do an 8 team playoff? Cut a game from the already short season (and cost every team revenue for the sake of adding another playoff round)? Cut the conference championship week and just kinda guess who the conference champions are?

If you leave things as is, do you play the first week a week earlier and take away that entire break? Extend the season into mid-January?

Yeah, Michigan, Wisconsin, etc... there are good teams left out. Eight teams? It'd be USC over FSU. Eight teams with conference champions? It'd be five top eight teams with Ohio state, Michigan, and USC as wild cards. So it's the same no matter what.

Also, there are too many conferences.

Literally the same thing but a week longer.

Yeah, but my point still stands. #6 seeds that were extreme long shots have won the Super Bowl before. My only point is that asking "do I think this team is championship worthy" is the wrong way to go about it... the point of a playoff is to prove you're championship worthy.

I'd rather expand the playoff to 8 and see maybe one not quite deserving team get smoked in the first round than leave out three potential champions.

It's more exciting with that chaos anyway.

Do they deserve a shot less than a team with two weaker losses? lol.

Why not just do the first round the weekend after Army-Navy? That would give the winning teams plenty of time to rest up

Wait why would it be usc fsu over Penn state?

What I think people arenot seeing is that the entire college regular season is one big playoff. Michigan had a legit play-in game and lost. Wisconsin had two "play-in" games when they faced OSU and Michigan.

OU lost their chance at a play in game when they lost to aac houston.

The regular season is a playoff and that's why we're all pumped up for the beginning of the season
