The same kind of logic that's applied to SEC teams every single week.

Ohio state should be ahead of Washington this week.

They will be but I don't get why a team who lost to an UNRANKED Penn State team (the same Penn State team that lost to fucking PITTSBURGH and had trouble getting past Kent State and Temple lol) who is so high in the polls now only because of their win against Ohio State should be.

It doesn't matter where the polls are at today. Huskies win out and with the Pac-12 then one of those B1G top two are on the outside looking in.

In terms of ranking, yes, it's the more impressive win. In terms of performance, nah, Nebraska isn't very good and they are the team most like Ohio State in the Big Ten. Not as impressive.

If this one Ohio State loss was to even a Top 25 team....ANY OF THEM at the time, the I could say yeah---decent loss and I understand it.

    But it wasn't.

the wins are much better. they just smoked a top 15 team, pile on the fact that they've already beaten TWO top 10 teams on the ROAD!!! You can nitpick each of these wins and losses all you want, but at the moment, the only thing washington can hang their hat on is a road win against Utah and a home win against Stanford.

Penn state has more wins against .500 teams than washington deos

ahh but none of this matters. i dont like arguing rankings this early in the season. this stuff always tends to work itself out

Is this the fault of Washington that they play in a conference having a down year? I will tell you one thing right the fuck now....if this was USC/Stanford/Oregon in this position and not ya know, Washington....the committee would be jerking off at the thought of one of these three in the playoffs as would the media.

There simply is zero debating that. The Pac-12 missed the playoff last year because the best team was a two loss Stanford team so that makes sense (two losses=no playoffs). But if one of those teams were undefeated right now, it wouldn't even be up for debate.

Again, however, UW played this past weekend with a 10:30PM EST kickoff. Most of the committee didn't even see the game so yes, Ohio State will jump them.

you're making excuses like crazy and your homerism is off the chart right now haha. At the present time your team doesn't deserve be in the top 4. Unfortunately your conference and particuarly your division is having a down year so the wins aren't as impressive as you'd hope to be. This is how this stuff works.

Is this conference bias or team bias?

Well I'm not wrong. How many of those old geezer committee members do you think stayed up to watch Washington play @Cal at 10:30 PM EST?

But again, what happens today doesn't matter much. UW wins out and wins the conference, one of the B1G teams are crying in their beer. UW loses one game in the next three but still wins the conference, they go to the Rose Bowl. So win-win for me.

No team is beating Bama so I'd actually almost rather a Rose Bowl appearance/much more likely win, tbh.

I can think of zero reason Ohio State should be above Washington. You're really going to tell me a team that lost to Penn State should jump a team that lost to...no one?

    The rivalry is back on

With this stupid weird emphasis on strength of schedule, is Washington better off if they lost to Utah in the committee's eyes?

One loss Utah is a top 10 team if they beat UW. So, UW has that "quality loss" that excuses the loss and a harder SOS. Plus they have a chance to get a quality win in the PAC-12 championship.

Isn't Penn State ranked 12th now? OSU has had a much tougher schedule than some of the teams in the top ten.

other than the fact that ohio state has better wins (2 of them are ranked teams on the road) and washington only has 1 win over a ranked team?

this weird emphasis, you mean the basis of what all college "selections" is based on?

Penn State is ranked 12 right now ONLY because they beat OSU. That is literally it. Prior to that game, they were unranked.

I don't see how Ohio State's schedule is some juggernaut that you people make it out to be. Is it better than Washington's schedule? Yes. Did Ohio State make it through that SLIGHTLY tougher schedule unscathed? No.

very surprised that this week's poll wasn't done yesterday, or earlier today than usual, due to the whole, you know, election thing.

Washington has two wins over a ranked team, technically. They beat Stanford when they were ranked #7 OVR and Utah most recently.

I saw Paul Finebaum making a case for Tennessee not too long ago because they had some wins against teams that WERE ranked (but not now) at the start of the season so if that works for the SEC it works for the Pac-12.

were ranked and currently ranked are entirely different things.

Why? Stanford has lost three games to very good teams. Three of the top teams in the Pac-12 and are probably going to end the season ranked again.

I'm a huge Buckeye fan so I am obviously bias in many ways. However, Michigan has had the weakest schedule of any top team. And it pisses me off haha.

You can only play who's on your schedule. Btw, Nebraska never deserved a top 10 ranking and part of the reason Wisconsin is regarded so highly is a close loss to OSU... so the reasoning just becomes circular at that point.

Because as a season goes on, we all learn that certain rankings are unwarranted and that certain programs didn't meet the expectations we all expected.

Is a win against UCLA and Oregon still good? Even though both teams are having shitty awful years? No. Of course not.

Well maybe next time Washington should schedule better than Rutgers, Idaho State and Portland state.

    Wisconsin also beat LSU
