One loss is not a reason when Wisconsin's two losses are to two top five teams. Sure, A&M lost to #1. But the Aggies were destroyed while Michigan and Ohio State barely pulled away. And their defense is not even comparable. A&M has one of the top players in the country and that's it. Their remaining schedule is pretty weak too. If LSU doesn't get the "upset" then the Aggies can now waltz into the playoffs.

I don't disagree. I'm just saying it doesn't surprise me.

By this logic, Auburn should be above Wisconsin right now haha. Both losses are to top 4 teams.

Let's be honest. The playoff is stupid. The NCAA is not interested in fixing it, they are just interested in making more money off of kids they don't have to compensate. Divisions in conferences is absolutely stupid. The SEC East is garbage compared to the west. The conference championship is not even between the two best teams in conference sometimes.

I would say borderline never haha. It has very rarely been that way. But I mean, the ACC has Clemson, FSU, and Louisville in a division so it's not much better there. Big Ten has Ohio State, UM, MSU, and Penn State too.

Auburn has looked significantly worse than Wisconsin and A&M isn't a top four team by that logic. Auburn is a product of beating bad teams before people caught on to them being bad. Why did people think Arkansas would be very good this year? They lost what, 10 offensive starters?

Yeah, I used the SEC as an example because of how many teams get ranked every year.

It's not any better in basketball though. Every year we let a bunch of idiots select the field for the NCAA tournament and they always use different criteria. Yet there is an algorithm out there by a basketball guru named Ken Pomeroy that we could easily utilize to select the best basketball team instead of leaving it up to some idiots that probably haven't watched but a handful of games, of which are mainly the school they work for.... (sorry for the rant)

Oh yeah, that was just me realizing how common it is haha. The Pac used to be that way but apparently not anymore haha.
Yeah, I don't get how college basketball operates still. I just bet every year and lose every year haha

I would argue that Auburn has looked both better and worse than Wisconsin depending upon which part of the season you look at. I think they have a higher ceiling than Wisconsin.

My problem with this thought process is that it means that there are only a handful of good teams in all of college football and then every other team is bad. I don't think it's fair to put every team into that dichotomy.

Do I think Arkansas is a good team? I think they are plenty capable of being a good team. Do they always live up to that potential? No. If you look at their results against Alabama and then compare them to their result against Auburn, what does that really say? I don't know.

I think bowl eligibility (6-6) is good dividing mark between "good" and "bad" teams. If a team doesn't reach bowl eligibility, they're bad. End of discussion, even if bowl eligibility is a pretty "easy" mark. However, the distance between a 6-6 team and a team that's 12-0/11-1/10-2 is quite drastic and where a lot of hyperbole comes into the discussion. Mediocre is a great word for a 6-6 team, but any team 8-4 and higher would need another descriptor entirely, etc.

(Sometimes I realize how much my English degree has affected the way I think when it comes to adjective choice.)

Nothing quite like starting off the Thursday morning commute with an argument with multiple Bama fans on twitter....and yes....you guessed it, one has black teeth.

This was my exact thought as well. Really hope that Browning is still around. With any luck, Jarrett Stidham will be our QB at that point. Could be a very fun matchup. One I might make the drive down from Richmond for.

I've said it here before but I do think Browning stays all four years but yeah, if not, UW currently has the #2 QB in the 2018 class committed in Jacob Sirmon from Bothell, WA (about 30 min from Husky Stadium). Bama is hot on him currently too but I think he sticks.

Then again, guys like Jacob Eason have proven that local allegiance means nothing .

Are tickets to these kickoff games usually pretty expensive? I might start budgeting it in and fly down for it. I'm pretty stoked on the 2017/2018 recruiting classes for UW, this team is only getting better so this might be a fun one to get down there for.

Tickets this year purchased through respective schools (UGA vs UNC) were $85 for upper level. It will be in the new dome though in 2018 so not sure how that will affect ticket prices.

This kickoff game announcement has me a little curious....with everybody basically treating the SEC as THE conference in College Football (Thanks, Bama), what is it with the reluctance for those teams to schedule home and homes with Pac-12 teams (or any west coast schools, period)?

Tennessee was the last one to play out this way in 2013 in which they were boat raced @Oregon. Bama played @ Hawaii in 2003, Auburn @ USC in 2002, Florida @ USC in 1983, A&M @ Colorado in 2009.

    Struck me as interesting.

Tennessee has a history of PAC-12 home and aways in my lifetime. UCLA twice, Cal once, Oregon once off the top of my head. Surprised we haven't done Stanford with the rivalry the lady Vols have.

I imagine the travel is frowned upon and with the sec conference strength they (scheduling ADs) don't want to add in huge travel to an already tiring season.

Auburn is doing a home and home with Cal in 2019 & 2020 I believe (don't quote me on the years but it's coming haha). Sorry to kinda bust your point there!

Found the info. Auburn has a home and home with Penn State in 2021-2022 and then a home and home with Cal in 2023-2024.

EDIT: They play Washington in Atlanta in 2018 and Oregon in Dallas in 2019.

So honestly a lot of PAC12 for us.

I wasn't talking about neutral sites though. I mean, fuck, Auburn is two hours away from Atlanta. I'm sure they really needed their arm twisted to play UW there lol

I mean it's cool you play Cal in 7 years. UW had a home and home with Wisconsin but they cancelled on us a few years back.

We have a home and home with Michigan in a few years, too.

And there's more Auburn alumni in Atlanta than any other city, so essentially a home game haha.

I mean yeah it's a ways out, but it seems like that's just the way it goes now. You have to book it way in advance or it's not gonna happen. Auburn at least is willing to make the travel as opposed to other SEC schools. But let's be real, neutral game sites will always be preferable for the SEC because $$$
