Salary cap people...because Derrick Rose signed for the vet minimum, does that mean the Cavs cannot go above the cap the next year to sign him more than vet minimum or mid-level? I know with Deron Williams and Derrick Williams, they were not allowed to go over the cap to sign those guys to bring them back. I thought it was because they signed for the vet minimum.

Full bird rights is three consecutive one year deals with the same team or a multi-year deal with three seasons completed with the same team. In a multi-year deal the bird rights transfer in the event of a trade. Early bird rights are two years. Deron and Derrick were both bought out and signed, therefore, there are no bird rights attached to them because they started new contracts.

 

So long story short, if D-Rose has a (really) good year - he's gone because Cavs can't go above the cap to re-sign him, correct?
