Yeah, it was really weird. Things were coming out about a few people in the Doomtree scene a couple years ago and Dessa spoke out about some abusive behaviors he exhibited while they were dating at some point. Very disappointing.

    1. fun.: Aim & Ignite
    2. Paramore: Brand New Eyes
    3. Say Anything: Say Anything

    All Time Low: Nothing Personal
    4. Lady Gaga: the Fame Monster
    5. Manchester Orchestra: Mean Everything to Nothing
    6. Miranda Lambert: Revolution
    7. Silverstein: A Shipwreck In the Sand
    8. Every Avenue: Picture Perfect
    9. Taking Back Sunday: New Again
    10. Florence + the Machine: Lungs

Aim & Ignite is my favorite album of all time so that was a very simple choice for #1. It's the album I credit with opening up my mind to what I could enjoy listening to. I truly think every song is a 10/10.

Brand New Eyes could be my favorite Paramore album it really just depends on the day. Say Anything self-titled might've actually been the first one I heard - the IARB, IDOTG, and SA I pretty much got into all around the same time.

Technically my #3 would've been Nothing Personal. I'll prob stop including/talking about them after this but this album is also inseparable from this time in my life. Listening to it would really just transport me right back to summer 2009, walking around my neighborhood with my friends blasting this. That also goes for New Again which has some of my favorite TBS songs (especially Everything Must Go)

Shout out to Telephone (Gaga/Beyonce), White Liar (Miranda) and Dog Days Are Over (Florence) - some of my favorite songs.

Kid Cudi: Man on the Moon
    Arctic Monkeys: Humbug

    Rihanna: Rated R
Cage the Elephant: Cage the Elephant

Thanks for letting me know - I'm reading Dessa's book at the moment too, which is a bit of a coincidence, as obviously POS has a significant role in her story, so very disappointing and sad to hear.

This is like The Year of Disappointing Follow-Ups for me. Common Existence, Daisy, The Pariah The Parrot and the Illusion, Nothing Personal, Anywhere But Here, Trevor Hall, Killswitch Engage, etc. Weird year.

This makes me happy as hell. If I made this list in '09, I'd have put The Dangerous Summer #1 but this one has just burrowed into my heart over time.

Your lists always make for such an appealing bit of homework for me to do eventually. Haha

    FUCK yes.

I adored that book. I think she's a staggeringly incredible writer.

Didn't realize so many people hated Bitte Orca, that would def be my #1 album from this year and prolly a top 3 ever. Next-level vocal/guitar performances and an electricity I've yet to hear in another record since. Makes sense they were doing like 9-hour rehearsals lol

IMO, that's the best Lambert album. And I adore the Kearney album. His purest singer-songwriter record, with some really lovely Laurel Canyon touches.

I will be honest: I do not know if I've heard Post-Nothing. I was pretty sure I had. But it's not on any listening or to-buy list I have. So I'll just have to re-listen and be sure.

I definitely have heard parts of the U2 and Green Day albums as well, just never front-to-back.

  25. Craig Manning

Those U2 and Green Day albums were really big releases for me back in the day (and the latter was just generally pretty inescapable), hence my surprise.

I definitely did not hear Post-Nothing in 2009, but went back to it after Celebration Rock.
