Essentially @cyclones_37 is referring to the cd jacket/lyrics but they did a really great job with it , design and flow-wise to make it almost "interactive" as you listen so you can get the whole experience. Part of the whole Mae thing if I've not mistaken, the band was conceived to be a "Multisensory Aesthetic Experience" (get it?).
Well shit, now I'm going to have to track down a copy of the actual CD cause I want to do this right, lol.
I'd mail mine to ya if I can find it since you seem to still be an avid CD user! I don't even own a CD player anymore sadly, I just have tons of em shoved into my entertainment center for display and probably another massive box of them in my garage lol.
I don't have a CD player in my house but I keep a few favorite CDs in the car and when I buy new ones, they get played instantly in the car on the way home.
Yeah should have mentioned it's with the physical CD/vinyl. Here's a video to at least show the booklet. I really love the intro tells you the sounds when to turn the page, cool little details like that make it such an immersive experience
Definitely check out Be if you get a chance. Straight up masterpiece. Is this the year of that Blue Collar album you like, too? Fuck Yes. Sadly, I contributed to those Disturbed sales. In my defense, Believe was shockingly good. Damn, apparently I really need to check out Nightmare of You I still firmly believe I personally financed the Saugus store's relocation to the mall. I must have spent at least $5k at that one location over the years before it moved I don't know why it's so indelibly in my mind that when I saw him open for Ben Harper, he had one member of his band that just jumped around waving the Jamaican flag and played no instruments. It was awesome. Local Boston band right on the verge of breaking big when their singer (and my favorite artist other than Billy Joel) Chad Perrone split. They were on opening slots for Matchbox 20, Goo Goo Dolls, Vanessa Carlton. Headlined the Avalon on their own right before they broke up. Just about to make it. There's an element where maybe they hit me at the right time in my life, but the combination of rock muscle, classic songwriting smarts, pop-friendly melodies, saxophone just ticked every box and altered the direction of my music listening forever. And made me a different musician. I'm a full on religious zealot about it. We called in some favors (love you @Craig Manning ) to get Chad to guest on our self-titled album. And the EP before that we recorded with Scott Riebling from Letters to Cleo because he produced this album. They were always a little too much on the line of wankery for me, but those motherfuckers can play. I just need a bit more song focus in my prog.
It is, and that finally made streaming along with their other stuff! It’s definitely number 1 in my heart for the year, although I haven’t returned to it in a bit
Actually listened to Drawn to Revolving Doors last night for the first time in awhile. They really cover a lot of musical ground on that record. It's pretty impressive. It will be somewhere on my list, once I get around to posting that (hopefully) this evening.
I mean not many bands can pull off “Mouth Full of Sand”, “Harwich”, “Everything with You”, “Revealed”, and “This Time” variety-wise in a career. Let alone on an album. I think what always puts this ahead for me is as great as his solo collaborators are, they don’t have the heft that Averi did on this record. So when he soars on “When You Gracefully Creep In” he just takes ALL the way off. He’s also never worked with a lead guitarist like Stuart Berk since.
Awesome - well I will certainly be checking it out. I already checked out the one song that was tagged a few posts earlier, and really liked it. Thanks!
Oh definitely. The one on streaming labeled “The EP (2004)” is pretty perfect too. Has their best songs
Oh man. As you probably know, I used to consider it kind of a “just fine” capper on the album. Then I lost people I really loved and now there are times I can’t even bring myself to listen. Just an emotional howitzer
I distinctly remember in the spring of ‘05 they put a teaser for the album up on their website and there was a little snippet of them doing “Harwich” in the studio and I just reflexively yelled “STRINGS!!!!” at the top of my lungs. Haha Couldn’t manage any other words
Honestly think it would be really up your alley, and it's their only full length worth checking out (the follow up was plagued with terrible production) plus one EP (Bang). Very catchy/medolic rock in a more upbeat version of like... The Cure/Smiths type genre. Closest thing I can think of to compare to, anyway, I love it. From the guitarist of The Movielife if that means anything to you ha
When my grandpa passed away, I wrote a song that I performed at his wake. Then we all went back to his house and my uncle and I were trading off playing songs and singing for the people there. I did that one and I think it made the whole room cry. I sometimes forget he released an EP since Kaleidoscope. But yeah, been forever since we got a full album!
