Yeah my laziness means I keep missing stuff. Just this morning I've been going through one really long extended playlist of mine and found, I think, three albums I missed just for 2004. I'm going to try to be more thorough from here on out.
listened to Weezer's Make Believe and actually enjoyed most of it, some fun tunes. Definitely more interesting to me than Green but not as good as Maladroit. "Beverly Hills" is a truly shit song though, easily the worst I've heard from them so far. "Perfect Situation" is the clear highlight.
1. Thrice - Vheissu 2. Circa Survive - Juturna 3. City and Colour - Sometimes ---- 4. Minus the Bear - Menos el Oso 5. The National - Alligator 6. Silverstein - Discovering the Waterfront 7. Funeral for a Friend - Hours
Love the shot out to Mae. In any other year in makes my top 3. I feel like I love this album more than most. Such a good "story" type of album.
Oh damn, I totally forgot about the first City and Colour record! Have to revisit that - def an honorable mention for me.
Great write-up and sad to hear about all that happened in '05 for you. My parents got divorced that year, and I took a year off of college, so while not quite the same as what you went through, still was a big transitionary year for me. I put on The Everglow this morning and was instantly transported back to that year and those memories, but in a good way. After about 7 years of moving around the country, I recently moved back to the same area I lived in when this album came out, so driving some of the same roads while listening to this today was quite magical for me.
05 anecdote: I remember blasting Fat Joe’s My Fofo (the 50 Cent diss) in the cafeteria while some on the other end were blasting 50 Cent We were all so corny but felt so cool
Green was so boring and samey, this at least had some fun moments. There's not much difference between them there was just more on Make Believe that interested me.
green is better in almost every conceivable way and never reaches the level of cringe that several songs on make believe do but that’s for another thread
it's not better at being interesting to listen to or diverse in any way. I think Make Believe has lower lows but higher highs so I like it more. I've only listened to both once though. Maladroit was significantly better than either.
This is why I'm making sure to hit all of the Weezer albums though, I want to join the conversation. I look forward to having more takes in the future.

Oh man I managed to avoid those But in 03 I did rock a somewhat oversized "British sweater" over a very much oversized white tee inspired by a Will.I.Am outfit
