Been listening to this a lot this week. I think Constantines must have been my most slept on band of high school, they were tremendous. Might even have a #1 vote from me in a month and a half.

    1. Everything In Tranist-Jack's Mannequin

I was already beat to the punch on saying this, but this is an absolutely perfect summer album. It's a perfect album period, no bad song on it. Even my "least favorite" song on it, Rescued, is great. As my last few lists have been heavy on "ex girlfriend put this on a mix for me", that is also true for how I was introduced to this album. She put MFEO Parts 1 and 2 on a mix for me, and of course the mix itself had the line from The Mixed Tape written on it in sharpie lol. Wasn't long after that that I realized I had heard The Mixed Tape and Dark Blue before. And man, these lyrics were EVERYWHERE in peoples AIM profiles and livejournals and etc. But what a perfect album. The way it kicks off with sets the summery vibe right away and it doesn't let up. I cycle through constantly what my favorite song would be on this album, but it's probably still MFEO, especially part 2. Love the lyrics, just feels like young love and relationships, and I love the call back to The Mixed Tape in them. This should be #1 on more people's lists this year, IMO. Seeing him play the album in full on the anniversary tour was so good too.

    2. Crimson-Alkaline Trio

Funnily enough, this started very high on my Trio records rankings, dropped down very low over time, but has settled somewhere in the middle. For me I think part of this ranking is the experience--this was the first album recording/releasing I was a fan for for the first band I was really a big fan of. After Good Mourning and buying the rest of their albums, I became a big Trio fan. I joined the Blood-Pact, and we got so much insight to the recording process and the touring they did around that time, it was so much fun. The "Dib dub" (DFW) video still makes me laugh when I thnik about it. And the video where Matt put the tailpipe whistle on some random car in the parking lot with a jam band bumper sticker. The excitement and build up to that release was just real fun. Hearing Time To Waste for the first time as someone ripped it from it's KROQ debut. They leaned fully into that goth-y style and sound that they had slowly built through FHTI and GM, and it worked. They did more vocal trade-offs on Crimson, I think because the fans were pushing for it. There are a few clunkers on here, i.e. Your Neck and Fall Victim, but even those songs have things I like about them. The highs on this album are really really high though. Dan was in a song writing zone back then man, he crushed it again on this album. The Sadie re-recording was good too, though I think I preferred the BYO split version.

    3. Hypnotize/Mezmerize-System of a Down

SOAD was my other favorite band at the time so this again was my first real "album release cycle" with a favorite band, even though Steal This Album had happened. And they didn't disappoint. There are things I don't like about both albums of course, probably inevitable with this many songs released at once. I'd probably say Mezmerize is my favorite of the two, just because it has less songs on it that I dislike, but the highs on both are pretty close. I also prefer Serj's singing voice to Daron's, and it felt like Hypnotize had more Serj than Mezmerize did. BYOB was ridiculously catchy and it's still funny to this day to play it for people and watch them go from shock/fear of the verses to the absolute head bop of a chorus lol. Lots of other songs on Mez that were more pop accessible I think. Question was an interesting choice for a single IMO. But I enjoyed listening to every song on Mez at one point or another Attack leads off Hypotize with a classic SOAD sound, that one reminded me the most of Toxicity if I remember correctly. Wasn't a huge fan of Dreaming or U-Fig, but the rest of the songs on this one I also liked at one point or another. Listening to Tentative now actually and forgot how much I liked the simple chorus on here. Holy Mountains was like PLUCK part 2 in topic, very good. Ending with Lonely Day and Soldier Side crushed it.

After that, 2005 is literally, even more so than 2004 or 2003, the "year of songs that my ex put on mix CDs for me" lol. She gave me one for my birthday and then 2 for our 1 year anniversary I think, so I got SO many songs from 2005 on there since that was the year we started dating. All of your lists reminded me of goddamn many there were....let's see...

-I Will Follow You into the Dark was on one of those mixes, and I also had of course heard and loved Soul Meets Body. I really am doing myself a disservice by not going back and buying those two Death Cab albums and giving htem proper listens.
-First Day Of My Life? Best believe that was on there lol. Such a sweet song for a young person in love. Still enjoy that, and have since found and enjoyed At The Bottom of Everything and We Are Nowhere And It's Now. Pretty sure I've heard/liked Lua too, but don't remember at the moment. Also remember liking one or two songs from Digital Urn.
-Love Is a Fast Song was also on there. And another friend had "loveisafastsong" or something like that as her AIM screenname haha. Really love the kind of "Nostalgia for old-school love" lyrics in it, probably more poignant today!
-Ready And Waiting To Fall. Another lovely song for young people in love. Definitely a perfect song for that. I had heard of Mae before this but hadn't really listened to them. This song and Soundtrack To Our Movie were put on mixes for me and I enjoyed them both. Now that I hear that The Everglow is a concept album I might have to give the whole thing a spin, I like concept albums. I do have Suspension and the title track on my ipod and they're okay.

Beyond those, a ton of other songs I picked up from peoples lyrics in away messages and social media of the time, my ex, and my friends who were into the same types of music...

-LG FUAD is a great song. My group of friends were fans of the album so I heard this song a lot. Never really got into them much beyond this song and The FUture Freaks Me Out though
-The Panic! album has a lot of songs I enjoy. I Write Sins is still a classic. Lying Is the Most Fun, angsty teen stuff there. But Its Better If You Do had an interesting sound compared to what the other bands of the scene were doing. Same with the first track (not the intro). And I def swore this was FOB when I first heard them lol
-FOB...man I was annoyed with FOB for a while when this came out. I've since come around and like a handful of their songs, including from this album, but I got reallllll sick of Sugar WE're Going Down and Dance Dance at the time lol. But I do like those now, as well as Nobody Puts Baby In a Corner
-Despite being a huge fan of the first album, I never bought Demon Dayz to my recollection. I did enjoy Feel Good Inc, and I think my first time hearing DARE was actually on...I wanna say one of the MLB the show video games? My toddler really enjoys DARE now lol
-Really liked Bat Country and Seize The Day from City of Evil
-Friends were also big Coheed fans, heard that album a lot. The Suffering and Welcome Home are still favorites of mine.
-Those Fray songs were inescapable at the time

Tons of other songs I could get into if I thought about it, some of the pop radio hits and radio rap and etc.

I probably do enjoy Lost In Hollywood more because we get more Serj vocals on that one than Lonely Day. That solo in Lonely Day is ridiculous though. But yeah Lost In Hollywood is great.

"Lonely Day" infamously featured some impromtu lyrical changes from Daron in one of the final Ozzfest dates of 2006 before they went on hiatus: "Such a lonely day....in this band...this motherfucker...I can't stand." Awkward...

fingers crossed cause I’d love to listen to it. The only song I know for sure is on that mix cd is “just let go” bye Mae. I need to find out what else is for nostalgia reasons. 2008-2009 was wild.

Haven't listened to that MCS album in a decade probably. I did like it and perhaps will have to give it a spin tomorrow. Kind of felt like the MCS lyrical style won't hold up as a not 16 year old but maybe I'm just being a snob.

i mean, a lot of the bands that have gotten votes, including ones I have voted for the last few years, don't have lyrics or songs that hold up at all.

Yeah, nostalgia votes win these every time. It’s hard to divorce how you felt about an album then vs now. Not criticizing, as I’ve done it too, but does dilute the results.
