It seems a bit pointless to worry about who wins. This is a small, self-selecting community of mostly blokes in their early to mid 30s, the vast majority of which posted on a site called AbsolutePunk, and we get about ~30 votes per thread, you'd expect it to be a different selection of albums than if you polled a bigger or more diverse selection of the general public.
It's definitely already there for me. I just looked over my 2005 playlist and realized it's the year that my college kid self discovered more indie rock music, but yet was still deeply obsessed with scene/alt music.
But yeah I do have some very distinct memories of popular rap songs around that time that I'm like "wait really?" lol I spent a lot of 2007-2009 binge drinking and partying (and depressed for most of the 2007 part) so some hazy memories for sure, but the soundtrack of some of those memories are pop rap songs like Crank That and Aye Bay Bay and etc. SOme others that came out in 2006 but continued getting played in 2007 too
I'm 6 tracks into Good Morning Revival and I'm sorry but this is so bad!! Misery started off on a positive note, but the next 3 songs are no bueno. I'll stick it out, but this album just is not for me
Haha I’m sure it’s not everyone’s cup of tea but I freaking love this album. Just takes me back to a different time. Got me through some shit.
I totally understand ya, and maybe it's because I have zero personal connection, but there's some rough stuff here haha. Oddly enough, I am currently enjoying "All Black"
I'll tell you what though, I do appreciate the risks they take on the album, they definitely swung for the fences and I totally respect it.
Break apart her heart is probably my favorite song. If that gives you any indication on how I was feeling back then
