I just tried to think of what my top five would be but it's hard when every song jumps out at you.

The Authority Song has always been one of my least favourites on there.

 

Praise Chorus has always been my fav on that record followed by If You Dont, Dont.

 

"If You Don't, Don't" is my favorite, definitely, followed by "My Sundown."

"Your House" is one that always gets kinda overshadowed sandwiched among the 4 singles, but I heard it stand alone on shuffle this last week and can confirm it's a great fucking song too.

Sorry not sorry this album is every bit deserving for best of the year. And the mutual love for it around here rather than just all the "typical" critical faves is something I truly appreciate.

 

I took this album for a ride when they put it on Spotify last summer and man...that took me right back to my senior year of high school. I absolutely adore Aaliyah. Such a great album.

 

Obviously Bleed American wouldn't be my pick for 2001 but I'd take it over Wilco or The Strokes and I like how much this site loves JEW, lol.

Quite easy to forget stuff that came out in these year threads but it is a shame I forgot about this beaut

 

Catching up on these threads and checking stuff out that I’ve never listened to before as I either forgot to or whatever and I gotta be honest, I’m ashamed to admit / learn that I had no idea that Kanye borrowed/used (whatever the term is) “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger” for his “Stronger” six years later. Kind of blown away I never learned that before tonight lol

 

Sampled would be the term you’re looking for.

 

I think The Glow Pt. 2 has finally clicked for me. Not sure how it wasn't more immediate since this style is up my alley.
