You’re the only person voting for him. Your post reminded me that Owen came out this year that’s a cool album.
I’ll go back and revisit YFW and Dashboard when I want to tell some lyrics aloud with the windows down and it’s sunny out. That nostalgic iv drip
Even then, I don't want him to have any points in the vote thanks to me. I just have to be honest about my list or it's a rabbit hole I'll never get out of.
Saw a few mentions of Staind's "Break The Cycle" and while Aaron Lewis has done a LOT to piss away any goodwill he might have had, that record was HUGE at the time especially when we had so many ridiculously angsty and pissy nu metal bands. Staind pretty much stayed in the mid-tempo sludge style for the duration of their career but that record was a nice reflection of nu grunge/Alice In Chains style balladry with melodic rockers mixed in. On the other hand, I can't get over how Lars Ulrich produced that band Systematic and how their name was such an unintentional representation of their music.
1 Aaliyah - Aaliyah 2 Jay Z - The Blueprint 3 Jimmy Eat World - Bleed American Also, heavy stuff doesn't make up a ton of my listening time but Lateralus, Iowa, Toxicity, Jane Doe... obviously very different styles, but what a year for that general type of music.
I looked at a few albums on my list, that as a 15-16 year old were DEFINITELY favorites, including Staind, Hoobastank, P.O.D., Sum 41, even Puddle of Mudd .... can't help but admit I listened to a LOTTTTT of those at the time. Most of those bands are punchlines now, I get it - but man I'd be kidding myself if I wouldn't put on a playlist of the 'best songs' from some of those types of bands on a road trip or something and have a blast listening to it. Nostalgia is a funny thing I guess, but also not a bad thing.
Finally checking out Rockin' the Suburbs and it's unsurprisingly great. Love the little electronic additions.
I hadn't listened to that album in a long time before this week. I sometimes forget how many great tracks there are outside of The Luckiest, like Fred Jones pt 2
this is prob the track I’ll take with subsequent BN albums tbh. It was a bit easier to leave YFW off but will be impossible to talk about music that shaped my life without some of the future albums tbh. Just don’t want them getting any points and ending up on a list because of me hah
Agreed with this. gotta believe Deja and TDAGARIM would be faves in 03 and 06 if we are listening to them "in a vacuum" as we say. Can post our honest list and points just shouldn't count.
