Feels like a pretty good representation of classic 2000s songs.

 

Yeah, none of them are surprising imo with the exception of Hang Em High (no offense to it)

 

Kinda weird but solid list imo, how did "Hang 'Em High" get there lmao

 

yeahhhh it's less the inclusion of songs and more the ordering that's surprising

 

I didn’t have time to do this this week but looks like only choices of mine that woulda made a difference were Hey Ya and Mr. Brightside, without knowing who was just outside the top 10

 

there was one with 16 but i forget which and like 20 with 15

 

No Radiohead cuts and two Bon Iver cuts smdh

Radiohead won the whole damn album poll, I think it's ok if they aren't as represented in the songs poll.

 

Probably just less consensus on a single Radiohead song

 

But more of a consensus on "Hang 'Em High!?" Lol

 

Yeah not sure how "Helena", "Welcome to the Black Parade", or maybe "Famous Last Words" aren't the definitive emo/MCR song from the decade haha. FWIW Helena was possibly going to be on my top 10.

 

"Helena" or "Welcome to the Black Parade" would have been my picks, but "I'm Not Okay" is right there too

 

They probably would be the picks if we had a larger sample size haha. I think "Hang 'Em High" is better than any of those three though and a more interesting inclusion so I'm happy with it.

 

It’s hard to pick one song as the consensus when they have so many good ones but I had to go with my personal favorite MCR song that still gets my adrenaline up and doesn’t feel overplayed.

 

When did it switch from Slinny Love and Flume from For Emma to Re:Stacks as the go to Bon Iver song?

i deleted the list but just from memory, i believe radiohead was the second most nominated band, and if not for one person’s single post where they nominated like six songs by one band they’d be first lol.

i’m choosing to take it that they actually have the best songs of any of these bands since so many got nominated *dude pointing to his head gif*

 

We don't have many people voting, and a lot of the lists are different, so if someone ranks a song 1 and another person has it in the top 5/6, it's probably going to make the final list.

 

@SpyKi also voted for like every MCR song ever, so that band in general had a better shot of getting multiple votes for one song than most other bands mentioned in this thread.

 

I actually thought I'd ruin their chances at getting on since I didn't vote for any of the singles lol.

 

As I said I had no time to do it this week and still don't have time now so I'm throwing this together very quick without much time to think it through...

Ngl 9 and 10 could have literally been anything. Those were just the first songs I thought of when I Thought of songs from the 2000s that I loved or defined a part of my life or still listen to a lot etc. Fat Lip is a cover band staple still around here at least so pre-pandemic was still jamming out to that on the weekend when we'd go out to a bar. Once again stuck to the one song per band rule, otherwise could have been multiple Alk3/TBS/Dashboard/Jack's/Killers songs on here. Some with Blink, as "I Miss You" was definitely a definitive song. As I said, MCR was there too, Helena could easily be 10. BN would have certainly been on there if not for the allegations and creepy perv douchebaggery. Simply left a ton of songs and bands off that I wanted to include. Like most here if I sat down and thought about it I could go 50 songs deep easily.

 

Good to see Maps make the top three of the combined list. It's one of those universal songs where every cover of it, or every interpretation, it ends up also being great (a bit like The Cure's In Between Days or The Cranberries' Dreams), which I think is one of the marks of a perfectly written song.
