Honestly, it hurts so bad for awhile when you finally cut off contact. But, to paraphrase a "Moneyball" quote, it's so much better to take the bullet to the head then getting a thousand cuts and bleeding out (all figuratively speaking). You just gotta get through it and face the pain and the other side is a lot better.

Absolutely. Not that it compares to that depth of a relationship, but the person (previously mentioned) that I was talking to put the brakes on it and said she didn’t know what she wanted (aka she didn’t want to date), but still wanted to talk because she loved our conversations.

I thought that might eventually be a way back in, but it was clear she was just too afraid to say “I just want to be friends.” Still, I’m naive and kept talking to her for another month+ and it was just clear she wanted to do her own thing, so we just stopped talking altogether. The pain of it is definitely calming down and all it makes me wish is that I would have accepted reality and stopped talking to her sooner.

 

I’m also still friends with my most recent ex of 4 years. I think we manage it well but I know it’s going to hurt like hell when she starts dating again.

 

big big news from me - my fiancé Adam was granted his temporary and permanent partner visa simultaneously today, making him a permanent resident of Australia! it’s what we’ve been waiting for for so long. hugely relieved, excited and shocked that we’ve gotten the “double grant” and we’re now free to pursue all our future plans!
