The most annoying parts in songs are usually annoying because they're catchy, that's why I'm always confused by catchiness being used as a positive descriptor on its own. Sometimes catchiness sucks because its a bad song I have stuck in my head and the more I hear it the more I hate it.
I dunno what to tell you, man. Whether something hits your pleasure centers is a instinctual reaction. All we really do in response is try to make sense of or rationalize it.
1. Blink 182 - Enema of the State 2. Jimmy Eat World - Clarity 3. Slipknot - Slipknot 4. NIN - The Fragile 5. Dr Dre - 2001
I guess I purposefully didn’t ever listen to them because I always clumped them with bands like Korn, Disturbed, and that kind of stuff, which never appealed to me whatsoever. I’ll listen to “Wait and Bleed” now EDIT: Yeah I’ve definitely never heard this before hahaha I hate this so much
Here’s a hot take: The second Disturbed album is still really good and one of the only nu metal albums still on my shelf after I purged a lot of bad purchases from that era.
Is it a hot take because Disturbed fans typically don’t like that album, or is it a hot take because you’re saying there’s actually a “really good” Disturbed album? Haha
The latter. Haha. I have no idea how Disturbed fans rank their catalog, or if there are still Disturbed fans. Haha
There are definitely still Disturbed fans lol (I am not one of them). They're headlining a Sunday night at one of those hard rock festivals that have been popping up these last few years. Though I will ask : is the second album the one that has "prayer" on it? Disturbed dudes voice has always annoyed the shit out of me, but speaking of catchy songs/hooks just hitting you just the right way, that's the ONE song of theirs that I've always had a soft spot for.
This is timely as I have a habit of revisiting older albums doing cardio at the gym and recently did Disturbed's "Believe". I like those songs but they are bit too plodding vs what I think Disturbed does best which is aggressive 80's style Iron Maiden riff-fests mixed with David Draiman's unique vocal ticks.
I dunno man, the ending of “Believe” is easily one of my favorite riffs. Channeling classic Metallica for sure.
I liked Wait and Bleed and I'm not a metal head/growler vocals type fan at all haha. That song was pretty big as was Duality a few years later. Would be shocked if you hadn't heard that one either. But Wait and Bleed was all over The Box and other music channels back then
just gonna call it now, i don't think we've gotten a vote since Wednesday or so. JEW's Clarity wins with 43, blink's enema of the state had 28, and NIN's the fragile had 18.
