1. Office Space 2. Fight Club 3. Magnolia Other standouts: Man on the Moon, The Green Mile, The Insider, Stir of Echoes, Summer of Sam, Arlington Road
Favorite movie of 1999 is probably Election. All time great year for quirky dark comedies. Besides Election you also had Being John Malkovich, Drop Dead Gorgeous, Idle Hands. I've never seen Jawbreaker before but i've heard great things. Pre-Millennial ennui vibes in the late 90's made some great movies.
I am not loving Bringing Out the Dead. Parts remind me why I turned off Gangs of New York. Some early Van the Man tho
I know it was years ago but @soggytime calling Toy Story 2 the best American film ever has to be the most incredible thing anyone has ever said on here.
I watched the Master again this week and he still floors you. He is playing so many layers but you can see his character working through being this other person for an audience. It is even more impressive being alongside Phoenix doing career-best work.
Phoenix might be the best doing it right now. Even if the movie is a dud he always gives a great performance.
Phoenix is definitely in the shortlist. Michelle Williams deserves recognition but she doesn't play the flashy characters people look for.
Varsity Blues is much more ridiculous in tone than FNL, also a lot darker where the coach isn't inspiring at all and is an abusive monster.
As a former high school football player, I can say it is quite common for star high school quarterbacks to be injured in the home opener.
Is high school football actually that big in Texas? Football is our biggest sport here but towns don't stop for the game on Friday night.
Why did Dawson throw the ball at the mascot? That is going to take a few seconds more than just spiking the ball.
When they do that Billy Bob play it immediately sounded like a penalty because a lineman would be an ineligible man downfield but after the receiver fumbled it it is anyone's ball.
Also, going 5 wide receiver set when you are only down 10 with an entire half to play is some Madden stuff. At least have a tight end or a back to take advantage of a soft opening in the middle if you are making your receivers do out routes every play.
