Fuck that. They have at least 3. Really more like 5. Honestly, Something Like Human is the better record. They fell off pretty fast after the first two though, imo. One of the greatest singles in the history of pop music and a pretty good album, to boot. Not sure why it's so overlooked. The debut is solid, but they got better with every record. It's All in Your Head is a lost classic of the era.
There have now been several posts mentioning a Kid Rock album. Is that a rap Kid Rock or a country Kid Rock album? Or is there a third Kid Rock? I could look it up, but this is more fun.
I have a honourable mention, because it is a compilation, not an album: DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince - Greatest Hits. It's the first thing I owned by them when I was just getting into music, so I am nostalgic, but it's worth a listen even if you know the actual albums, because it has several several really great remixes etc. on there.
1. xo 2. car wheels on a gravel road 3. the miseducation of lauryn hill/aquameni (pls don't make me choose between them)
Oh man see I totally missed knapsacks album. I love that album. Also good to see you agree that refused sucks.
Listening to the Black Star album right now and this is so good. Super into everything about it so far.
Jurassic 5 just be making some happy ass music. you cannot listen to concrete schoolyard and bob your head and smile.
AllMusic says Sunny Day, but that feels wrong to me. They find somewhat of a mix of emo, alt-country and indie rock. It's just great writing.
I plan on it when the 1999 thread comes around, haha. Can't be skipping ahead! That one has actually been on my list to try for a while, I'd never even heard of the Black Star album.
I listened to Music Has the Right to Children by Boards of Canada, which based on the reputation, I was expecting to enjoy quite a bit more than I did. It's ambient, experimental electronic stuff, with little bits of hip-hop beats, and perhaps I just wasn't in the right mood, but I found it a very long 1hr and 10 minutes, with nothing sticking, or grabbing me. I can imagine this is influential, but for a first listen, this felt really long and mostly uninteresting to me, which is a big shame.
I tried it and pretty much had the same reaction. I'm not the biggest fan of ambient/instrumental music in general though so I'm probably not the best person to judge it.
I think there's an element of Boards of Canada that's kind of just really sweet background/mood music, so it's definitely not something I imagine is immediately appealing to everyone. I'd also say that The Campfire Headphase is probably a better intro point - it's the same deal as MHTRTC for sure, but is a little happier sounding overall. I'd visit/revisit these two songs, and if it doesn't appeal to you then I think they're a fair skip:
I have little patience for that genre usually but Chromakey Dreamcoat is one of the greatest songs of all time
