it’s a cool record, I really like Same Thing, No One Can Hurt Me, Everybody’s World, maybe another few, but songs like Very Best Years and that fucking Both Belong intro are just cloying Jack Joseph Puig is one of my favorite mixers, never clicked as a producer though. Those records are way bloated

I wish I loved that album even a fraction as much as its single, which is one of the most wonderful to ever hit the airwaves.
the single is by far the best song, but there are some other ones i like a lot too. "without love", "nothing ever changes", and "fool's paradise" are also pretty great.
I somehow forgot that the final Cocteau Twins album came out in 1996. It remains very underrated; some fantastic tracks on there.
1. Counting Crows - Recovering the Satellites 2. Weezer - Pinkerton 3. Rage Against the Machine - Evil Empire
Maybe not a true first listen, but I listened to Evil Empire by RATM for either the first time, or the first time in a long time. Whenever I'm in the mood to listen to Rage, I'll usually go for either of the albums either side of this. It's good though - aggressive and anthemic, some fun guitar riffs and De La Rocha's passionate vocals just belting it out. Feels very similar to what comes before or after - which is kind of the thing for Rage for me in general, I feel like I could listen to any ten songs on shuffle and it'd be indistinguishable from an album.
1) Tool - Aenema 2) Stone Temple Pilots - Tiny Music 3) Weezer - Pinkerton 4) Beck - Odelay 5) Rage Against The Machine - Evil Empire 6) Tonic - Lemon Parade 7) Less Than Jake - Losing Streak 8) Goldfinger - Goldfinger 9) Sponge - Wax Ecstatic 10) Fiona Apple - Tidal 11) Counting Crows - Recovering The Satellites 12) Bad Religion - The Gray Race 13) Tori Amos - Boys For Pele 14) Soundgarden - Down On The Upside 15) Sublime - Sublime 16) Moist - Creature 17) Reel Big Fish - Turn The Radio Off 18) Pearl Jam - No Code 19) Matchbox 20 - Yourself Or Someone Like You 20) The Wallflowers - Bringing Down The Horse As a child of modern rock radio, if I were to leave off Tonic, Sponge, Bush or Matchbox 20 I'd be lying as I listened to those albums a fair amount. Tori Amos, Beck, Fiona Apple were all CD's I owned but I actually grew to appreciate them much later in life. Tool's 1996 album is, in my opinion, their peak as it's the best balance between their prog-leanings and big rock hooks. Moist I actually got into in 1997 due to, for some reason, Cablevision in the NYC area carrying MuchMusic (though they did have a minor US hit with "Resurrection"). Weezer, Counting Crows, Less Than Jake, Goldfinger all need no rationale to this group. For Pearl Jam fans, No Code is usually one of the "under-rated fan favorites" but I found it a little difficult in 1996 and still do but at times at age 38 but there's no denying it has some of their best material on it. The Bad Religion album usually gets a bad rap since it was their first without Brett at the time but I still think it's as solid as any Bad Religion 90's album and includes one of my favorite songs by them ("Pity The Dead").
I still prefer EE over BOLA. Both are still great but BOLA has their most generic throw-always such as “Mic Check”
feels pretty safe to call this one, as it isn't particularly close. pinkerton wins with 39 points. the fugees' the score had 17 and wilco's being there had 13. I have the day off tomorrow so I'll still post the thread, but it might be a bit later than usual depending on how late I sleep in
