also, i updated the thread @Henry put together compiling all the yearly threads with a post showing who has won every year and the point total for the winner, for seeding purposes. just in case some of the newer participants are interested in seeing https://forum.chorus.fm/posts/4726204
1. Faith No More - King For A Day, Fool For A Lifetime Angel Dust is great but I will always have this as the best FNM album and one of the greatest guitar albums ever. So much wouldn't exist without this and the previous two Patton era records. The range, the power, the agility - and that's just the vocal performance. One of the best bands doing their best work. 2. PJ Harvey - To Bring You My Love The sense of yearning on this album is amazing. This and the first two are my Polly Jean triumvirate and I go back and forth as to whether this is the best. 3. Green Day - Insomniac It's my favourite Green Day album. As much as I'm baffled by their last 10+ years of music, this is why I still have a soft spot for them. It's more overproduced than the punk albums I tend to go for but it still sounds so vital and full of life. Honourable mentions: @George hit on a couple; Post by Bjork would be in my top three most years, and Maxinquaye is great too (I was listening to Suffocated Love just the other day). The Blue Moods Of Spain by Spain should probably be in there; such a lovely, warm-sounding record, for anyone who's looking for more albums to check out. You'd Prefer An Astronaut is obviously really good, although I do have to skip The Very Old Man because it always takes me out of the record. I think Adrenaline has become underrated in the Deftones catalogue, partly because people have just decided it's the nu-metal one, but I always think of it as a 'proto nu-metal' album, and the Bad Brains worship is melded so well. Further by Flying Saucer Attack is going straight on as I type this. I refuse to have an argument about One Hot Minute but I think it's seriously overlooked and one of the best RHCP albums, better than anything that came after it. I really like Daydream - when I used to vaguely have guilty pleasures, Mariah was one of the few. I haven't listened to It's Great When You're Straight...Yeah by Black Grape enough times to talk about it too much but it's well worth a listen. And obviously The Bends and Frogstomp are worth a mention. I'm sure I'm missing some obvious ones right now.
kinda surprised, pleasantly so, we haven’t had a RHCP winner yet, though i suspect that’ll change soon

This is going to be a fun one. On the road today so probably won't have my list ready until tomorrow or Wednesday. MC&IS was my first ever "favorite album", and WTSMG was the first CD I ever purchased. That being said, I cannot yet commit to what my #1 will be. And holy shit there are sooooo many other great ones from this year too.

311 Blue Album!!! Right on cue my friend, I was about to comment asking if I'm really going to be the only person voting for them in these threads lol
I mean I love 311 I don’t really listen to them much anymore but I’ll still get super hyped when I do and have fun.

Realistically the top three could all be solo Wu albums. All produced primarily by RZA. Which is insane to think. And he’s not done because he also produced the best album of 1996 ( don’t quote on that because I haven’t actually looked ) bong bong
At the time my favourites were The bends, what’s the story, a different class, jagged little pill, insomniac and the great escape Discovered and loved since Adrenaline, sunny day real estate, foo fighters, hello bastards so 1. Radiohead - the bends 2. Sunny day real estate - st 3. Green Day - Insomniac
1. Hum - You’d Prefer An Astronaut 2. The Goo Goo Dolls - A Boy Named Goo 3. Sunny Day Real Estate - S/T Honorable Mentions Oasis - WTSMG Jawbreaker - Dear You Mobb Deep - The Infamous 2pac - Me Against the World Alice In Chains - S/T Smashing Pumpkins - Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness Texas is the Reason - S/T
kinda surprised at the lack of mention of the foo fighters debut. kind of an album unlike anything they’d do going forward, and maybe the one time grohl has seemed unsure of himself/not overly confident and it leads to some awesome experimentation. and guitar tone. nothing sounds better than “exhausted”
it's way up there for me too. Talk about some underrated jams on there. "Floaty" is always a personal fave Foo tune for me as well.
I'm terrible with music released in '95 so looking forward to discovering some of these. Currently: 1. Alanis Morissette - Jagged Little Pill 2. Smashing Pumpkins - Mellon Collie & The Infinite Sadness 3. Pulp - Different Class
