Trisha Yearwood - The Song Remembers When
Just one of the best singers in country music, especially when you give her a ballad to sink her teeth into. This album balances in just enough variety to keep it moving, but the slow ones are the marquee attraction. "Lying to the Moon" and "Nightengale" are particularly breathtaking.

    Aerosmith - Get a Grip
They were fully into their cheesy period, but 2/3 of the record is very catchy, memorable pop-rock. The other 1/3 is really dumb Steve Tyler shit but plenty of Joe Perry, one of rock's greatest guitarists.

Patty Loveless - Only What I Feel
Not a lot to say about this one that's unique. She keeps her country fairly straight

Jamiroquai - Emergency on Planet Earth
Starts like a house of fire but runs out of steam in the back half. That first run of songs is joyous, though.

    Aimee Mann - Whatever
Oh man, this is my shit. Her songwriting was always excellent in Til Tuesday and this is a cool, new avenue for it. Nice shiny power-pop accoutrements all over the place. "4th of July" is a jaw-dropper, in particular.

this final tally had to be SO close.

Also stoked for '94 - probably THE best year of the '90s.

actually turned out being pretty wild to me. especially with illmatic performing pretty well so far. though ready to die is not. idk. maybe post the threads in those rap classics threads? it's gonna be dumb if most of our albums are white dude rock, especially with the great stuff like sly and the family stone or funkadelic that have been ignored already

    1. Pearl Jam - Vs. My favorite album of all time. Enough said.
    2. Counting Crows - August and everything after. And I love Recovering the satellites even more.
    3. The Afghan Whigs - Gentlemen. A very, very good album.

Really good year. I like 1992 more, but man, the early nineties... what a time to be alive.

I keep missing these threads sadly, but just in the likely case that it hasn’t been mentioned: Code Red by DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince - while not their most significant album - has real gems on it. Unlike most of their other records as a duo, you do not need to be into 80s rap.
