Oh man. This gives me deep personal satisfaction seeing Prince there. And that opening run on Joshua Tree is so nuts you almost can’t appreciate it unless it’s actually on. It doesn’t even register conceptually.
Definitely been coming back to that Prince album a lot lately. And I totally know what you mean on that U2 run. Those three songs are such standards at this point, and have been played on rock radio so many times, that it's easy to take them for granted. But hearing them one after the other on the actual album is still so exciting for me.
Crazy to think that 1987 marked the debut of the mighty Guided By Voices, as well. Not exactly 'essential' listening in their catalog by any means, but their first two records, Sandbox and Devil Between My Toes came out this year.
This is such a fun song. Sounds way ahead of it's time for '87. For anyone that isn't familiar with Happy Mondays, their singer Shaun Ryder is also the unmistakable guest vocalist in "DARE" by Gorillaz.
It’s so crazy that an album with “Adore” and “I Could Never Take the Place of Your Man” might not be his best album. How is that possible?
1. U2 - The Joshua Tree @theagentcoma 2. Dinosaur Jr. - You're Living All Over Me 3. Eric B & Rakim - Paid in Full
Listened to You’re Living All Over Me. Am I way off, or did they influence a lot of emo, especially guitar/wise? It was a little underproduced but I was really into it
1. U2 - The Joshua Tree 2. INXS - Kick 3. REM - Document 4. The Cure - Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me 5. G'n'R - Appetite For Destruction
joshua tree wins with 18 points. the cure's kiss me x3 and eric b and rakim's paid in full are tied with 11.
Actually quite happy Paid in Full made a real run at it. Only got to 5 listens this week, but I was sick, it’s the end of the quarter, and it was Hallowen, so that’s not too bad.
Totally missed this thread, and my votes might have mixed things up a bit since I just really don't LOVE U2, but I still like em. Anyway! 1. Michael Jackson - Bad 2. Guns N' Roses - Appetite For Destruction 3. The Cure - Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me 4. George Harrison - Cloud Nine 5. Prince - Sign "☮" the Times 6. George Michael - Faith 7. Fleetwood Mac - Tango In The Night 8. U2 - The Joshua Tree 9. Descendents - ALL first album listens that I dug Aerosmith - Permanent Vacation Depeche Mode - Music For The Masses Def Leppard - Hysteria Dukes of Stratosphere - Psonic Psunspot Heart - Heart INXS - Kick R.E.M. - Document Tom Petty - Let Me Up (I've Had Enough) Replacements - Pleased To Meet You
and the 1987 mix. Track 10 should be Paul McCartney - Once Upon A Long Ago, but for some reason it's not on spotify at all, so oh well
