I haven’t seen The Colour of Money in a long time, but I remember Newman and Cruise being great in it, Newman in particular. Excellent last scene too. It doesn’t really feel like a Scorsese film for me though, reminds me a bit of his earlier work when he was a director for hire, as opposed to making “his” films. I don’t think there’s any controversy about it - it’s not a bad film at all, just not usually put up in the upper echelon of his work, but it’s perfectly solid.
I am very happy my review of Mulholland Dr. when I was 19 years old is gone from the world. I thought it was so awful and nonsensical at the time.
I hope he actually is watching Blue Valentine and stroking his chin like “hmm yes this very Lynchian indeed”
Looking back on these posts I had never heard anyone praise Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 outside of this thread. I didn't even know there was a direct sequel; it seems like they just remake the first one every few years.
i did mean blue velvet. my bad but i did not come into the 1986 in film thread to post about a movie with ryan gosling. in any case. fuck. that was incredible. i liked eraserhead a lot and thought elephant man and dune would mostly fine to bad. but this was probably the most effective/moving film I've seen for the first time in a long time.
