Bruce Springsteen's Nebraska won 1982. Let's see who wins 1983.

    Billboard chart-topping albums of 1983:
Men At Work - Business as Usual (cont. from '82)
Michael Jackson - Thriller (cont. from '82)
    Flashdance - Soundtrack
    The Police - Synchronicity
    Quiet Riot - Metal Health
Lionel Richie - Can't Slow Down

    Billboard chart-topping singles of 1983:
Hall and Oates - Maneater (cont. from '82)
Men at Work - Down Under
    Toto - Africa
Patti Austin - Baby Come to Me
    Michael Jackson - Billie Jean
Dexy's Midnight Runners - Come On Eileen
    Michael Jackson - Beat It
    David Bowie - Let's Dance
Irene Cara - Flashdance / What a Feeling
The Police - Every Breath You Take
The Eurythmics - Sweet Dreams Are Made of This
    Michael Sembello - Maniac
Billy Joel - Tell Her About It
Bonnie Tyler - Total Eclipse of the Heart
Kenny Rogers - Islands in the Stream
Lionel Richie - All Night Long
Paul McCartney and Michael Jackson - Say Say Say

What are your top three albums for 1983? We will keep a running tally and eventually have some sort of bracket. For me it would be:
    1. David Bowie - Let's Dance
    2. Metallica - Kill 'Em All
    3. New Order - Power, Corruption & Lies

What are some of the forgotten gems from the year? What is overrated? What did you discover at a young age and what did you discover later?

Whoaaaaa - are you not a Tears For Fears fan?

Huge debut record from this year - and a standout omission from your list at first glance.

Right out of the gate Legendary Hearts by Lou Reed is amazing. He literally never sounded better than with Quine and Saunders backing him. It's a crime they only made two albums together because this and The Blue Mask just have a particular alchemical magic to them.

I was gonna hold off for A Momentary Lapse of Reason because I fuckin' LOVE "On the Turning Away", but if The Final Cut is that good, maybe I'll do that instead.

its literally impossible that you have lived 30+ years in Western culture and not heard a Tears for Fears song, even if it was by accident or unknown to you in a grocery store or something.

Even still, that’s fine but hey man - just a recommendation! That’s what we’re here for.
